About This Pub

Ah, Coeur De Lion in Bath is one of those hidden gems that really captures the heart of a classic British pub – it's the smallest one in town, which makes it feel all the more intimate and full of character. I love how it draws in the locals, creating this buzzing, hilarious atmosphere that's just perfect for sinking a pint and chatting away with mates. The beer selection is spot on, with plenty from independent brewers that give you that extra something special. And if you're up for a bite, things like the meaty lasagne can be a real treat at a fair price, with some genuinely friendly service to boot. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses – I've heard tales of staff being a bit short and snappy, and the food isn't always up to scratch, with one person calling it disgusting and overpriced, which is a shame. Still, for a quick stop in Bath, it's worth popping in for the vibe and a decent drink, just keep your expectations balanced and maybe skip the food if you're feeling cautious.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely brilliant, especially when the locals are in – it's got that proper traditional pub vibe that's hilarious and welcoming.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers from independent brewers, making it a top spot for anyone who appreciates a good pint.
  • Service can be fairly friendly, with some lovely interactions from the bar and food staff, and the grub like that meaty lasagne is delicious and reasonably priced.
  • It's a charming little place with outdoor seating and spots indoors on the ground and first floor, perfect for a relaxed catch-up.
Cons
  • Service isn't always spot on – one person mentioned a snappy and rude server, which could put a dampener on your visit.
  • The food can be hit or miss; it was described as disgusting and overpriced in one review, so it might not live up to expectations every time.
  • Being the smallest pub in Bath, it can feel a bit cramped and cosy to the point of being overwhelming when it's busy.

I was given permission to wait here, while the girls went shopping. I had proposed to have a bellringer, but the Bass pulled me in. Two pints before my time in the creche was over. Having said that, the girls enjoyed it in there as well, so another couple of Bass went down really well. It may be small, but the pub is excellent.

Server was snappy and rude, and the food was disgusting and outrageously overpriced for the size and quality of what I got. Would not recommend this place if you’re going for a bite to eat.

Great small pub. Smallest in Bath.

I had a substantial portion of delicious, meaty lasagne and a well-kept pint for reasonable cost. Fairly friendly bar service and very friendly food service. A delightful little trad pub which I visited last September but forgot to review before now.

My go to when in Bath. Great selection of beers from independent brewers. The pub is small but is a proper traditional pub, there is outside seating, indoor ground and first floor seating. The pub has a fantastic atmosphere especially when the locals are in, they are hilarious.
