About This Pub
Ah, Charlie's Bar – it's one of those places that really divides opinion, isn't it? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got that authentic, no-nonsense feel to it, with affordable drinks and a crowd that can be surprisingly welcoming if you're up for a chat. I love how they've got happy hour deals that make it easy on the wallet, and being open seven days a week means you can pop in whenever the mood strikes. On the flip side, though, some mates have had a less than stellar time, talking about the bar feeling a bit worn out with issues like uncomfortable seating and messy facilities, not to mention staff who can come across as a bit brusque. Overall, if you're the type who enjoys a proper traditional boozer and doesn't mind a bit of rough around the edges, it could be a hidden gem. But if you're expecting something more refined, you might want to give it a miss or at least go with a group to keep things light-hearted. It's all about knowing what you're in for, really!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's got some cracking deals on drinks, like that £3.50 happy hour from midday to 2pm – perfect if you're looking to save a bit while enjoying a pint.
-
The atmosphere can be really welcoming for some, with friendly locals and a down-to-earth vibe that makes you feel right at home.
-
They're open every day from 10am to 11pm, so it's super convenient for a casual catch-up or a quick stop after work.
Cons
-
The place can feel a tad run-down, with complaints about dodgy seats and grubby toilets that might put you off your pint.
-
Some folks have mentioned unfriendly staff and a bit of a hostile vibe, which isn't ideal when you're just out for a relaxed evening.
-
It's not for everyone – there are concerns about it feeling unsafe or overly rough, especially if you're after something a bit more polished.

Went in here this weekend on my first ever trip to Canning Town. Was quite a rough bar but people were really cool and had a £3.50 happy hour from 12:00 to 14:00. I would recommend but if you are used to hipster places then this is a different vibe
It's a noy from me. Was faced with southern attitude because we didn't want to stay in what was frankly a run down pub, (if you can call it that?!) With seats that didn't even function.
Walked in, hostile atmosphere. Lady at the bar shouted at us to get drinks. A random guy started as he thought we stole his beer (it was in his hand). Clearly over serving customers. Not recommending. We then left and the lady asked where we’re going, we said over the river and she said ‘wtf’ in an aggressive tone. Felt for our safety.
Used to be ok place to have a drink and catch up with locals. Place is a dive now Lisa is running it. Toilets are a state and she wears the same clothes for days.
Also no young girl working there is safe as Lisa grooms them for her own needs!
Great bar, nice good looking manager, Charlie was a bit too friendly but I enjoyed it. Great decor, cheap drink & great atmosphere. Amazing place
