About This Pub

Ah, the Black Horse – it's like that reliable local that's had a bit of a glow-up and is back on form. I have to say, what stands out most is how they've given this historic spot a fresh lease of life, turning it into a proper sports bar where you can kick back with a pint and watch the footy without missing a beat. The atmosphere is generally spot on, especially if you're up for some friendly competition with the pool tables and dart boards – it's all about that easy-going vibe that makes you want to linger. The beer gets a thumbs up too, and hearing about the live music sessions sounds like a real treat for adding some extra spark. But, on the flip side, it's not all rosy; a few mates have mentioned run-ins with staff who were a tad short-tempered, particularly as the night winds down, which can really take the edge off an otherwise enjoyable visit. Overall, it's worth popping in for the good times and that community feel, but just keep in mind that service might vary, so go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a decent night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's been beautifully refurbished with a fresh, inviting vibe that really brings the place to life.
  • A cracking spot for watching football and soaking up the lively atmosphere, with plenty of screens to catch the action.
  • Features like pool tables and dart boards make it a fun hangout for groups looking to have a laugh and play some games.
  • The beer is spot on, and there's often live music or entertainment that adds to the welcoming feel.
Cons
  • Some folks have had run-ins with staff who can be a bit rude or impatient, especially when it's getting close to closing time.
  • Service can be hit or miss, with a few experiences leaving a sour taste and making you wish for a friendlier welcome.
  • It might not suit everyone, as the odd negative vibe could put a damper on what should be a relaxed evening out.

To the owner, Visit 10.02.25 with a group of friends around 22, Pub was quiet, We order 3 rounds of drinks, enjoyed the live music of a group of locals sitting couple of tables away. So far so good right? Nope. Just after 23, when they were preparing to close, staff became very quickly very impatient, one of the lady that served us behind the bar, dropped forcefully on the floor on purpose a stall from a near by table to hint it was time to go. First Note: none of the staff approached us giving us any sort of time to finish our drinks, they just carried on coming to the table with a very rude attitude cleaning glasses, not asking whatever We finished the drinks or not, one drink of mine still wasn't finished and was taken away. Second note: we're a group of five female/male mid 40's all professionals, none of us was drunk, none of us was rude to any of the staff. We literally just sit and watch in disbelief the whole thing. Should the Staff approached us and politely say:" guys We're closing, could You please leave the table in the next 10-20 minutes?" There would have been no problem at all. Will I come back, probably not. For reference the pub was clean and well kept, and They truly have a good selection of Ales, lagers, and liquors. Best wishes, Andrea.

Welcome return of this town centre, historic building, now fully refurbished & brought back into the community, as a sports bar. Calmer area by the main entrance, then with an open plan area with wall-mounted TVs, pool tables across the width of the building, with WCs to the rear and access to the outside courtyard. No onsite parking but good access all areas. The landlord is currently (Oct 24) having a new kitchen installed, so food will become available once complete; at present, it's crisps or nuts only. Bring it on!
