About This Pub

Ah, Bernie May's Bar & Bistro in Liverpool—it's one of those local spots that really hits the mark for a relaxed pint or pre-game gathering. From the reviews, the staff stand out as absolute stars; they're quick to serve and make everything feel effortless, which is just what you want after a long day or before heading to an Everton match. The drinks are reasonably priced with a decent range, and the place has this lively energy, especially with all the screens for catching the footie—it's spot-on if you're into that. Plus, if you're staying over, the hotel above sounds like a proper treat, all modern and comfy for a good night's rest. On the flip side, a few folks have mentioned the toilets aren't always up to snuff, with some off-putting smells that could spoil the mood a bit. And if you're a real ale enthusiast, you might be disappointed since it's only bottled varieties on offer. All in all, it's a solid choice for a night out, with more highs than lows based on that 4.4 rating, but it's good to go in with your eyes open so you can enjoy the best bits without any surprises.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and professional, always making you feel welcome like you're chatting with old mates.
  • They've got a great selection of drinks at affordable prices, perfect for a casual catch-up without breaking the bank.
  • The atmosphere is lively and spot-on for watching sports, with plenty of TVs and a good vibe after a match.
  • It's conveniently located in Liverpool and even has a hotel upstairs that's been praised for being modern and comfortable.
Cons
  • The toilets can be a bit of a letdown, with some reports of unpleasant smells that might put a damper on your visit.
  • No real ale on tap, which is a shame if you're after that; they've only got bottled options, so it might not satisfy the ale lovers.
  • The operating hours seem a tad confusing from what I've seen, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any surprises.

Nice pint of Guinness, but toilets 🚻 need to smell 😜 nice and fresh. On my last few visits, that has not been the case 😐

We stayed in the hotel above and it is so up to date and beautiful. We stayed in the family room and was blown away with how nice it was. Will defo stay here again. Bar down stairs is linked to it and the staff are great

Visited after an Everton home game, got served straight away, unlike a few other pubs. Plenty of friendly bar staff. Beer was nice, good range of drinks & at a good price. Nice atmosphere, plenty of TV's to watch sport too. Recommended.
