About This Pub
Ah, Chepstow Castle in Liverpool – it's one of those local spots that really pulls you in if you're up for a pint and some lively chat, especially during match days with all those screens showing football, rugby, and more. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the revamp has made it feel fresh and spacious, with a solid range of beers and cracking offers that won't break the bank. The staff are often up for a laugh and get you served quickly, which adds to the homely atmosphere. But, let's be straight, it's not all roses; there are times when the service dips or the crowd gets a bit too intense, like with that flare incident that sounded dodgy. Some have said it feels a tad cliquey, which might make newcomers hesitate. Overall, if you're after a no-fuss place to unwind with mates and watch the game, it's worth a go – just keep expectations realistic and maybe avoid peak times if you're not in the mood for a lively crowd.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is spot on, especially if you're into watching live sports like football or rugby – plenty of HD screens and a buzzing vibe make it a great place to catch the game.
-
They've done a lovely revamp inside, with more space, heaps of seating, and a good selection of beers at unbeatable prices, perfect for a casual catch-up.
-
The staff can be lively and quick to serve when they're on form, adding to that community feel.
-
It's got all the extras like Wi-Fi, live entertainment, and an outside area, which makes it versatile for different occasions.
Cons
-
Some of the staff attitudes can be a bit off-putting, making it feel cliquey or unwelcoming at times.
-
It's not the best spot if you're after a family-friendly outing, with reports of rowdy incidents like flares that might spoil the fun.
-
Service can be hit or miss, with a few mentions of slow pints or distractions that leave you waiting.
-
It might not appeal if you're looking for something more refined, as it has that typical pub edginess that could put some off.

Love a good Friday night here. Saturday is also a good time for All... All in all I've not had a bad night here
Not a family pub.
I was minding my own business, waiting for a pint which still hasn’t arrived in time for the 4pm game (I ordered it before the early kick off). Anyway, as I was dying of thirst a flare got chucked in through the front door….
As it rolled across the bar, distracting the bar staff 20 Hermes drivers rushed the pub, Stone Island badges pinned to their uniform.
Turns out Chepstow away is a big one for Hermes due to a rivalry with the landlord! After they slapped the bar staff about a bit the Hermes Ultra’s ran off singing 🎶you’ll never get your shirts back 🎶. Bizarre.
Harrowing experience. Won’t be back.
Revamped inside, bar moved totally, and it's a nice improvement. Good atmosphere inside pub, good choice of beers too. Plenty of seating room, seems bigger since revamp, and lots of TV's to watch sports. Recommended, and part of my post match County Rd walkabout!

Good pub, since the refurbishment last year & putting the bar on the wall, big improvement. Bar staff were lively, quick to serve & happy. Atmosphere was excellent, had sports on tv with music booming. Recommended
Terrible attitudes from staff, bit of a clicky place, manager things he's something. Black horse is a far better, we walk past now and don't go their now.
