About This Pub
Ah, the Bathwick Boatman – it's one of those places that just warms your heart from the moment you arrive. Tucked away just a short stroll from Bath city centre, this old rowing clubhouse turned restaurant boasts the most enchanting riverside spot overlooking the River Avon, where you can enjoy simple yet scrumptious food made with fresh, local ingredients. I've heard from loads of folks that the Sunday roasts are an absolute treat, with juicy meats and flavours that hit the spot, and the service is always spot on – think friendly faces who go the extra mile to accommodate everyone, even the fussiest eaters. It's brilliant for gatherings or a quiet dinner, with a cosy vibe that shifts from sunny terrace bliss in summer to a snug chalet feel in winter. On the flip side, though, parking can be a hassle with limited spaces, and while the grub is generally fantastic, a couple of reviews suggest it might not quite match up to some of Bath's top eateries for the price, so it pays to keep that in mind if you're splashing out. All in all, it's a lovely spot for a pint and a bite, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're after good value and a bit of that riverside charm – just pop in with an open mind and you're in for a treat!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely top-notch – fresh, rustic dishes with robust flavours that leave you wanting more, like those delicious Sunday roasts and seabream that folks rave about.
-
The riverside setting is just magical, with stunning views of the River Avon and a cosy atmosphere that feels like a proper escape, whether you're soaking up the summer sun on the terrace or warming up in the winter.
-
Service is spot on; the staff are welcoming and attentive, making everyone feel right at home, especially for special occasions or groups.
-
It's reasonably priced for the quality, with a great selection of wines, local beers, and even fresh coffee, all without breaking the bank.
Cons
-
Parking is a bit limited and only available until 5pm, so you might have to plan ahead or find alternatives if you're driving.
-
Some say the food, while good, doesn't quite stand out compared to other spots in Bath for the price, so expectations might need tempering if you're after the absolute best.
-
The operating hours can seem a tad confusing with multiple listings, and it might not always be open when you fancy a visit, especially on quieter days.

Lovely view delicious food and great service. Did not have to wait long after ordering and was not disappointed when the food arrived. Very accommodating to our food preferences for my elderly mother of 91 years of age who is a fussy eater.
Amazing Sunday roast. 3 of us sat on the terrace overlooking the river. Such a gem of a place and the food is incredible and very reasonably priced for the quality. Didn’t catch the name of our server but she was very welcoming and attentive too! I’ll be back!
The food was very good quality, standard and taste. 2 of us had the seabream and 1 had the pork belly. Dessert was sponge with clotted cream icecream and toffee sauce. Really delishious. Great service and atmosphere.
The Sunday lunch roast at The Batwick Boatman was a delightful experience. Nestled along side the serene banks of the River Avon in Bath, the atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and Rosie and the Team were friendly and attentive. The roast itself was cooked to perfection, with juicy meat and flavorful vegetables. I especially enjoyed the traditional Yorkshire pudding served with it. Overall, I highly recommend trying the Sunday roast at The Batwick Boatman for a delicious and satisfying family meal on a Sunday.
Nice inside and lovely terrace overlooking the river. The service was very good. We went for a Sunday roast and while it was nice and enjoyable, I have definitely had better in Bath especially for the price point. The lamb (my partner had) was better than the pork which as you can see in the photo is nothing special with none of the nice coating of fat and crackling. Nice but nothing special.
