About This Pub

So, I've been having a look at Bar 29 in Rugby, and it's one of those places that really captures the essence of a traditional bar with its focus on late-night fun – think DJs spinning tunes and bands getting the crowd hyped up. I reckon it's a brilliant spot if you're after some karaoke sessions or just dancing the night away with mates, and the prices won't leave you out of pocket, which is always a win in my book. Plus, when the staff are in a good mood, they add to that welcoming local feel that makes you want to come back. On the downside, though, it's not all smooth sailing; some folks have had run-ins with staff who can come across as a bit grumpy or even heavy-handed, which puts a damper on things. Then there's the beer, which hasn't impressed everyone – it's been called out as not great, and the absence of real ales might leave beer lovers wanting more. A couple of reviews also pointed out that the place can feel a tad unkempt, and the atmosphere isn't always buzzing as you'd hope. All in all, if you're up for a bit of adventure and don't mind the occasional hiccup, it's worth popping in for a pint or two, but maybe keep your expectations in check for a balanced night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got that late-night vibe, staying open until the early hours, which is perfect for extending your night out with friends.
  • The entertainment is spot on, with karaoke, DJs, and live bands that really get the crowd going and create some memorable moments.
  • Prices are reasonable, making it a wallet-friendly choice for a good time without breaking the bank.
  • When the staff are on form, they're described as friendly and welcoming, adding to the local charm and good vibes.
Cons
  • Some experiences with the staff have been less than ideal, with reports of them being miserable or overly aggressive, which can spoil the fun.
  • The beer selection isn't up to par, with complaints about it being subpar and no real ales on offer, which might disappoint ale enthusiasts.
  • There's a lack of atmosphere in places, making it feel a bit flat at times when you're hoping for that lively pub energy.
  • A few reviews mention the place being a bit dirty, which isn't ideal when you're looking for a cosy spot to relax.

Bar 29 has had few management over the years never had any problems going in there for my last stop of the night . Was the reopening last night . Me and my friends decided to pop in and was having a good time . Me and my Friends were on the karaoke and dancing the night away. I went out for a vape then was going back in. The bouncers told me I was not allowed back in which left me confused as wasn't overly drunk, bit merry but nothing drastic. A lady came out and wanted a word she told me I am barred from bar 29 because I had apparently assaulted a staff member in the toilets . I told her I never did that and tried to be reasonable told her to check cctv and I even offered giving my contact details she refused she was rude and not cooperative . I am not bothered about being barred from going to bar 29 as it's normally a last resort of the night but being falsley accused and humiliated infront of people when I have not done anything wrong. She wouldnt even let the staff member who I apparently assaulted verify that it wasn't me. I doubt I'll get an apology as she was very arrogant and rude . It's left me feeling embarrassed infront of everyone causing a scene .

Independent late night traditional bar with an emphasis on dj music and bands. Good prices and localised service.

Dirty little pub unfortunately as others have mentioned the bouncers are over zealous aggressive and don't listen to reason. I got kicked out the other week after a case of mistaken identity after one pint . The second one got bought and I've contacted my bank to reverse the transaction. Spoilt my evening and being a long way from home didn't paint a good impression at all. Steer well clear

Great place to go, open late with friendly bouncers not the usual power trippers and kind staff. Great entertainment and just all around good vibes. Saved my 21st after being extorted by the scum at Zinc. Would highly recommend.
