About This Pub

You know, when you step into Angels Cut in Darlington, it's like discovering a cosy spot where the focus is purely on the good stuff – think an impressive array of wines, spirits, and beers that could keep any drink enthusiast happy for hours. I love how the owners pour their passion into it, with over two decades in the industry shining through in their knowledgeable chats and that genuine welcome that makes you feel like a regular right away. It's brilliant for a relaxed catch-up over a rare whisky or a craft beer, and those little extras like the cheese board deals add a lovely touch. On the other hand, the hours can be a bit of a faff if you're not planning ahead, as it's only open certain days and might close early, and being a smaller space, it won't be everyone's cup of tea if you're after something more energetic or with a wider food menu. Overall, it's a solid choice for a chilled-out drink, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area and fancy something a bit special – just keep those timings in mind!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The selection of drinks is absolutely fantastic, with an extensive range of spirits, wines, and beers – especially their rum and whisky collections that really showcase some Caribbean traditions and rare finds.
  • The staff and owners are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in, which is perfect for chatting about your favourite tipples.
  • It's got a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, ideal for a laid-back evening or trying out something new like a tasting experience.
  • They offer great value deals, such as the cheese board and wine package, which sounds like a treat and adds a nice touch to the experience.
Cons
  • The opening hours are a bit limited, only open Tuesday to Sunday with specific times starting from midday at the earliest, so it might not suit impromptu visits or weekday evenings.
  • As a smaller venue, it could feel a tad cosy for larger groups or if you're after a more lively, bustling pub scene.
  • There doesn't seem to be much beyond drinks and the occasional snack like a cheese board, so if you're looking for a full meal, you might need to head elsewhere.
