About This Pub

Oh, Alice House is one of those places that just feels like a proper local gem in West Hampstead – you know, the kind where you can pop in for a quick coffee during the day or settle in for a full evening with mates. I've got to say, the Sunday roasts are a real highlight; they're hearty, well-seasoned, and just what you need after a long week, making it a go-to for family gatherings or a casual Sunday treat. The staff are genuinely lovely, always smiling and making sure everything runs smoothly, which adds to that welcoming neighbourhood feel. Plus, if you're into drinks, they've got a cracking range of independent beers, wines, and cocktails that pair brilliantly with the food. It's dog-friendly too, which is brilliant for those of us who like to bring the pup along. On the flip side, it's not perfect – I've heard tales of food not always coming out just right, like overcooked bits or the odd temperature issue, and one or two folks have had experiences that were downright disappointing. Still, with its cosy sofas and outdoor spots, it's a solid choice for a relaxed pint or a bite, as long as you keep expectations balanced and maybe book ahead for busier times. All in all, it's worth a visit for that community spirit, but go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Sunday roasts are absolutely spot on – plenty of flavour and generous portions that leave you feeling chuffed.
  • Friendly staff who make you feel right at home, always up for a chat and quick to sort out any requests.
  • It's a proper dog-friendly spot, perfect if you're popping in with your furry mate for a pint.
  • Great selection of drinks, from cracking local beers and wines to seasonal cocktails that hit the spot.
  • Lovely atmosphere with outdoor seating and comfy sofas, making it ideal for a relaxed catch-up or a lively evening.
Cons
  • Occasionally, the food can be hit or miss, like Yorkshire puddings turning out a bit dry or dishes not being served piping hot.
  • There might be the odd slip-up with orders, such as a steak coming out not quite as requested, which can be a downer.
  • It can get busy, so you might need to book ahead to avoid disappointment, especially for popular times.
  • From what I've heard, not every visit is a winner – some folks have had really off days that left a sour taste.

Recent Reviews

This place is genuinely the worst place I’ve been in my entire life. I’ve left about 5 google reviews in my life. 4 of them are positive for places I have been blown away by and felt compelled to leave a review. The other review is a previous negative review for Alice house. My friend lives in the area and every time we’d walked by Alice house has been extremely busy. We’d mistakenly believed this meant it must be good. The first time I went I had the most rubbish food id ever had. Everyone on the table was unsatisfied with their meal. They’d also messed our order up THREE times before they got it right. I’m no chef and no one would claim I’m a good cook, but I think I could outdo Alice house. Today, the bar I wanted to go to with some friends was closed and I thought id give alice house another try. Maybe I caught them on a bad day I thought? I was wrong. I ordered a pineapple mocktail and it was genuinely the most disgusting drink I’ve ever had. No one on the table could believe how awful it was. The service is also pretty inattentive and uninviting. Honestly, this place is so bad it’s making me believe in the theory that we’re all in a simulation because there is no way everyone in there wasn’t thinking the same thing. I have no idea how it remains busy and why people keep coming back. The only explanation I can come up with is that it’s all new customers and the reviews are all faked or that we are indeed perhaps living in an simulation.

Took my parents for a sunday roast - lovely food! We were very impressed with the size & how well seasoned everything was (occasionally they can be a bit bland). We submitted our orders in advance & service was very quick & without problems. All the staff we spoke to were absolutely lovely :) Would definitely come back.

Beat pub in West Hampstead. Dog friendly. Great food. Plenty of tables but you might wanna book. Sofas at the back. Outdoor seating. The staff is friendly and smiley. Amazing Sunday Roast too.

Really great roast and would highly recommend. The pork was delicious as was the gravy, the roasties and the veg. My only criticism would be that the Yorkshire puddings were a little over done so they were quite dry. The dish could have also been served slightly warmer. The drinks selection is great and the staff were very accommodating. I will be back to have the lamb, it looked so good!

Came here for a friends birthday as a group with a reservation. The food and drinks were all wonderful. There is a great collection of cocktails and mocktails. The food was all delicious and cooked to perfection (with the only issue we found was the steak being cooked wrong).
