About This Pub

Ah, the Old House – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper local haunt, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it, the food really shines, especially those Sunday roasts that folks rave about; they're hearty, full of flavour, and presented with a bit of flair that makes the whole experience feel special. The staff are an absolute gem too, always on hand with a smile and quick to sort out any needs, whether it's for a gluten-free option or just making sure your group's sorted for a family outing. And let's not forget the vibe – it's clean, comfy, and they've got that bottomless brunch going on with great music and cocktails, which sounds like a fun way to spend a weekend. On the flip side, it's not all perfect; a couple of desserts have let the side down, like an apple crumble that didn't quite live up to expectations, and you might find yourself waiting a bit too long between courses, which can dampen the enthusiasm. Plus, while the decor's nice in spots, it could use a few more touches to make it feel even more inviting. Overall, it's a solid choice for a pint and a plate, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in Northampton – just go in with realistic hopes and you'll likely have a great time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Sunday roasts are an absolute treat – they're packed with flavour, beautifully presented, and make for a proper hearty meal.
  • The staff are genuinely warm and attentive, always going the extra mile to make sure everyone feels welcome, especially for special occasions like Mother's Day.
  • It's got a lovely atmosphere, with a clean and stylish decor that creates a cosy vibe, perfect for catching up with mates over drinks or a bite.
  • They handle dietary needs brilliantly, like gluten-free options, which is a real plus if you're dining with someone who has preferences.
  • The bottomless brunch sounds like a blast, with great tunes from the DJ and top-notch cocktails to keep things lively.
Cons
  • Some desserts, like the apple crumble, can be a bit disappointing – not quite up to the high standards of the mains, which is a shame after such a good start.
  • There might be a slight wait between courses at times, which can throw off the flow of your meal and leave you hanging a bit.
  • It could do with a touch more decor in places to really amp up the charm, as a few folks have mentioned it feels a tad sparse here and there.

My daughter booked me a Mother’s Day Lunch here. We had 2 courses and the Sunday Roast was very good and nicely presented, however the dessert(apple crumble) was a little disappointing . The staff were nice and friendly with comfortable seating just would have liked to see some extra decor or niceties for Mother’s Day. 🪻🌹🪻🌸

Went to The Old House for the first time on Mother's Day, had the roasted trio which was amazing! Followed by the brownie, and others had the sponge cake. The presentation of all of the food was great, the staff were all very helpful and attentive. Someone in the group was gluten free, the team were very knowledgeable and ensured her requirements were accommodated for. Overall a lovely experience, and would recommend a visit, especially for a Sunday roast!

1st visit here. Will definitely be back. Absolutely beautiful decor and very clean. mother’s day 3 course meal. with 3 little ones. starter was amazing. main was even better, dessert was spot on. service was impeccable. Staff could do not do enough. Only slight niggle, the amount of time between courses was longer than i’d expected. This did not impact our experience at all.
