About This Pub

Ah, the White Horse in Sedgley – it's one of those pubs that really grows on you if you give it a chance. From what I've gathered from the chats and reviews, the staff are top-notch, always up for a laugh and making sure everyone feels included, which is just lovely for a casual get-together. It's brilliant for sports fans, with all the games on show, and that beer garden sounds like a hidden gem for soaking up the sun or staying warm in the heated areas. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses; there've been a few tales of rough patches, like run-ins with the door staff or a pint that didn't quite hit the mark, which can leave you a bit disappointed. Then there's the odd mention of arguments or other unsavoury bits in the garden, which might make you think twice about heading out there. Overall, though, if you're up for a traditional pub experience with a mix of quiet chats and lively events, it's worth a visit – just keep your expectations balanced and maybe go on a quieter day to avoid any drama.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff at the White Horse are absolutely brilliant – always friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home.
  • It's a fantastic spot for catching all the sports action, with a lively atmosphere that keeps things exciting.
  • The beer garden is a real treat, especially in the summer, with cosy heated spots for a relaxing pint.
  • Whether you're after a quiet lunchtime session or a place for big events, it caters well to different moods.
Cons
  • There have been a few dodgy experiences with door staff, which can put a damper on an otherwise good night.
  • Some folks have had issues with the quality of drinks, like a bad pint that spoiled the visit.
  • Occasional reports of arguments or unsavoury goings-on in the garden make it feel less safe at times.
  • It might not be everyone's cup of tea if you're looking for a consistently peaceful spot, given the mixed vibes.

Been a few times now. First time great second time issue with door staff today my pint was horrendous. I don't know if it was a bad pipe or not. Took one swig and left. Has massive potential to be a good pub. Tighten up on a few things and I'd love to drink here regularly as they show all the sports and locals seem friendly!

Only visit at lunchtime. Mostly older people gathering for a quiet drink, doing crosswords and following the horse racing.

Top pub and staff are great. I’m from Australia and loved the atmosphere there. Hope one day to return and catch up with the locals.

Shocking place. Drug city in the garden on 11/05/24. I've been to the White Horse on many occasions. But Saturday was the last straw for me and my group of friends. Upon arrival there was an argument to which the bouncers were sort of dealing with. After finding a seat in the garden I immediately noticed there were a few young males who had man bags....."International signal for drug dealers" The amount of drugs being passed around was shocking. I couldn't believe my eyes. Within 10 minutes of being there the police turned up for whatever reason. To which said man bag dealers made a quick exit after their lookout spotted the cops. Once the police had exited the man bags came back. The so called bouncers let the guy who was kicking off back in at the beginning. Once my friends had come back from the bar I was presented with my drink. Double Kracken shot of coke and 1 cube of ice. Upon taking a sip I immediately noticed this was not Kraken...I'm a seasoned drinker not a whipper snapper. I know my drinks. Upon presenting this to bar staff saying this is not Kraken. I was then showed the bottle..... stating this is Kraken..... You could show someone a bottle of bleach.... it doesn't mean there's bleach in it. I even said to the staff taste it.... it's not Kracken. To which they did and said that's Kraken then gave it me back! Argumentative and rude staff who clearly need educating on how to deal with customers. Overall this place has gone to the dogs and it's been sliding for along time. I and my friends won't be darkening your door step again...... massive drug problems.....Argumentative and rude staff....rubbish bouncers.

Excellent place for sports or a quiet drink with family. Big events are catered for by security and strict over crowding policy. Summer drinks in the beer garden are excellent and cosy seated and heated alcoves for those of us that aren't great sun worshippers or are dreaded smokers and want a bit of warmth in the winter. Not a food place but the cobs and snack are fresh, tasty and well priced.
