About This Pub

Ah, the Waggon Team—it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Gateshead, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews and the buzz around it, the staff really shine through; they're warm, professional, and make a point of looking after you and your lot, whether that's the kids, the dog, or your mates. The food's another highlight—think hearty burgers and skillets that are packed with flavour, plus they've got some fab deals that keep things affordable without skimping on quality. It's spot on for sports fans too, with all the live action from the Women's Euros or rugby tours playing on the screens. On the flip side, it's not perfect; a few folks have mentioned the odd mishap in the kitchen, like a steak that came out raw when it shouldn't have, which can throw off your evening. And when it gets busy, which it often does, you might find yourself waiting a tad longer than you'd like, or dealing with service that's stretched a bit thin. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a night out—worth a visit for the welcoming atmosphere and good nosh, just keep in mind it might not be flawless every time, but that's pubs for you!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant—always friendly, welcoming, and go out of their way to make you feel at home, whether you're popping in with the family, the dog, or just for a quick bite.
  • The food is a real treat; think juicy burgers, sizzling skillets, and amazing chips that hit the spot, with great deals that make it brilliant value for money.
  • It's a top spot for watching live sports like the Women's Euros or rugby tours, with Sky Sports and TNT Sports keeping things lively and engaging.
  • They've got loads of handy facilities, from being dog-friendly and family-oriented to having a car park and WiFi, which makes it easy and accessible for everyone.
Cons
  • Occasionally, the kitchen might slip up, like with an undercooked steak that didn't quite live up to expectations, leaving you waiting while others finish their meals.
  • It can get pretty busy at times, which might mean a bit of a wait for your food or service, even if the team is doing their best to keep up.
  • There have been a couple of instances where handling complaints wasn't handled as smoothly as it could be, which might leave a slight sour note to an otherwise great visit.

The Waggon Team Pub is absolutely top-notch! Ed and his team are fantastic—always welcoming and professional. Huge thanks to Shaunie and the rest of the floor staff for consistently looking after us and always making my son and dog feel more than welcome. It’s that kind of warmth and attention that keeps us coming back. Highly recommended!

Visited on Friday for my lunch with my husband. It was very busy, however the two girls made sure that all their customers were looked after. The food was good, cleared our plates. Katie, one of the waitresses served us, was kind, had a lovely smile and couldn't do enough to make sure we enjoyed our meal. She came to see if our food was okay and if she can help us with anything else and the other waitress who was very lovely, cleared our table. We will definitely be back soon, the staff, the cleanliness, the atmosphere was fantastic.

Visited this great pub three consecutive nights whilst staying at the Premier Inn. Staff are amazing so is the food. Only rated 4 stars as on the third night 5 meals were fantastic my steak was raw in the middle (not what I ordered). The other 5 in my party had finished eating before I got my meal replaced. Don't really think a complimentary drink was the correct compensation for an under cooked steak.

Lovely place lovely staff, and food delicious 🤤 update!! 2nd time we went steak was chewy and inedible for my partner so he asked the person who was serving us to sort it out but that young member of staff was very cheeky and told us to take our food to the chef because he had clocked off or to come back next day when he was back on shift, which was confusing that he expected us to take the steak into kitchen ourselves, but spoke to another member of staff which he offered free drink and dessert.

Food absolutely amazing here really loved the chips. Staff fantastic, great service very friendly. Didn’t have to wait too long for food. They have great deals on which means amazing food for an even better price. Would definitely be going back here. They have a selection of different meals so suitable for the whole family.
