About This Pub
Ah, the Tudor Rose – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Gateshead, you know? From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with that warm, chatty atmosphere where the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome, like you're catching up with old friends. The food's a real highlight; it's hearty and home-made, with reviews raving about dishes that taste just like something your mum might have whipped up, and it's all served piping hot and fresh. Plus, with affordable prices on drinks and a nice beer garden for when the weather's on your side, it's ideal for a relaxed afternoon or evening watching the footie with the crowd. On the flip side, it can feel a bit snug inside if it's packed, and there doesn't seem to be a massive lineup of events to keep things buzzing all the time, so if you're after something more extravagant, it might not quite hit the mark. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for that genuine, down-to-earth pub experience – I'd say give it a go and see for yourself; you might just find your new regular spot.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always up for a chat and making you feel right at home, like you're part of the gang.
-
The food is spot on – think hearty, home-made dishes that bring back memories of family meals, with options like that delicious corned beef pie that's generous and freshly prepared.
-
Prices are really reasonable, making it a brilliant spot for a casual night out without breaking the bank, especially for drinks and a bite.
-
They've got a lovely beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun or enjoying a pint outdoors on a nice day.
-
It's a great place for sports fans, with live coverage of matches on Sky Sports and TNT, and the community vibe means you're cheering along with mates.
Cons
-
The pub might feel a bit smaller inside than you'd expect from the outside, so it can get cosy during busier times and you might not always find a quiet corner.
-
From what I've seen, there aren't loads of events or special offers highlighted, which could make it feel a tad straightforward if you're after something more lively.

Stopped by for some emergency water on a very hot day and the lady was so helpful and even gave us ice. Thank you for saving us Tudor Rose!
We ate at the Tudor Rose on Wednesday. The staff were lovely and the food was piping hot and fresh. Would definitely recommend it
A unexpected visit, I got a puncture so popped my car in to Tams for repair, during the wait I popped to the Tudor Rose for a bite to eat, I ordered the corned beef pie with chips, well what can I say, it reminded of me coming in from school and my mam
(rip) putting my tea down, all home made, huge portion and did not disappoint. I’m glad I got the puncture now
The best part £7.90 wow, good grub for far less than a crappy McDonald’s
This is a great local pub serving the town of Dunston.
Locals are friendly (I'm a Teessider) and invite you into their conversations.
The beer is priced exceptionally well and the bar team are really nice who take time to chat to you and make you feel part of their vibe. The owners Andy and Gail are great people and do make you feel welcome. All in all, customer service is great.
You can choose to drink outside under a big awning or take comfort inside the pub itself if the weather isn't favourable.
There are also outside seats around the side of the pub that allow you to take advantage of sunny days as they are situated perfectly for the afternoon sun's movements.
The bar is well stocked with all of the names you would expect to see, without the prices of other pubs, which is very appreciated in a world where businesses are trying to screw everyone over for every penny they have.
This pub comes highly recommended.

A place I've passed many times but not today. Always thought it was a huge place inside for some reason but it is not so big once your inside. One of the old bars kept alive by the locals and some passing trade. It gives the feeling of stepping back in time. A good sized beer garden at the front and car park at the rear.
