About This Pub
Ah, The Woodend – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a reliable go-to for a good feed without breaking the bank. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the carvery and pizzas are real winners, with folks raving about the fresh dough and succulent options that make for a satisfying meal. The staff come across as genuinely warm and attentive, which always makes a difference when you're settling in for a bite. Plus, with deals like 50% off on certain dishes and a rewards app for freebies, it's easy to see why it's popular for casual meet-ups or family outings. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few grumbles about the menu not being as varied as it used to be – no more steaks or mixed grills, and sometimes the carvery's a bit sparse, which could leave you wanting more if you're after something specific. Overall, it's a solid spot with that community feel, but it'd be even better if they kept things a tad more consistent. If you're popping by, I'd say go for the breakfast or a pizza deal, and maybe check the menu online first to avoid any surprises – it's all about managing expectations for a top-notch visit!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely lovely and really helpful, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
The food is spot on – think delicious carvery roasts and fresh stone-baked pizzas that hit the spot, especially with those cracking deals like 50% off burgers and pizzas.
-
It's super affordable, with options like all-you-can-eat breakfasts and two-for-one cocktails, perfect for a budget-friendly night out.
-
The place is clean and well-kept, with a fresh atmosphere that makes it a welcoming spot for families or a casual catch-up.
-
Plenty of parking and a family-friendly vibe, plus they support local charities, which is a nice touch for the community.
Cons
-
Some menu favourites like steaks and mixed grills have disappeared, which might disappoint if you're after those specific dishes.
-
Options can be limited at times, like when only gammon is available on the carvery, leaving you with fewer choices than you'd hope.
-
It seems like there might be occasional inconsistencies with what's on offer, so it's worth checking ahead if you have your heart set on something.

Nice big carpark. Walked in picked a table. It was clean and not sticky.
The place looked fresh and cared for. Went up to the bar to order drinks and food. Really nice lady behind the bar and was very helpful. Took the drinks back and didn't have to wait to long and the food arrived. The food was OK and a good price. Good flavours and quality was OK. The servers were polite and when people left were quick to clean the tables and did a thorough job. So all in all a nice pop in and meal. Didn't have the carvery but it did look a bit messy around the serving area. Could do with a wipe down a bit more often. That would be the only thing I think could be improved. Will definitely go again when passing.
What's happened to the menu? No steaks or mixed grill anymore!!
We've been many times and had those yet now they are gone. Come in tonight for 18:30 and there is only gammon on the carvery available so can't have that either. Pizzas with meat on that's not on the carvery are not available either.
It's seriously going downhill. Breakfast however is always very nice, as for anything else it's not really worth it!

I had full english breakfast from here with my family. We really enjoyed. Affordable price. Highly recommend . Friendly staff.
We visited the Woodend last night for tea on the way back from shopping at McArthur Glen (approx a 7min drive) and are so glad that we did. We arrived for about 8pm and there was plenty of choice on the carvery option. We ordered 2 carveries and 3 burgers, but theres calzones, pizzas and Fish n' chips on the menu if you'd fancy. We all enjoyed our meals and found it was great value for money and tasted great too. We went away as 5 very happy and full customers.
We wanted to all give special thanks to the team working last night as every member of staff was incredible, nothing was any bother for any of them and were friendly at every interaction (Keeley, Joe, Evelyn, Lauren, Matt and Dec). Hoping to come back soon. Lovely pub, with a warm & friendly atmosphere
First time at this pub for a carvery. Table for 6 booked for 1.30pm and table was ready. Nice staff looked after us well and the food was really superb. 3/5 for atmosphere as it was early Saturday afternoon but no complaints at all.
