About This Pub
Ah, The Winter Gardens—it's one of those places that really stands out as a Wetherspoons, tucked away in Harrogate with all that lovely historic charm that makes you pause and appreciate the architecture while you're sipping your pint. I have to say, the staff are always so cheerful and efficient; ordering through the app means your food and drinks turn up in no time, and for the price, it's a proper bargain—think filling brunches and a good range of ales that hit the spot. The atmosphere is just buzzing, with those festive touches adding a nice warm feel, and there's plenty of room to spread out or find a cosy corner. But, let's be honest, it's not without its downsides; that narrow path by the bar can get a bit of a bottleneck, leading to awkward dances with other folks trying to get by, and I've heard a few grumbles about food not always being cooked just right, like eggs that end up more rubbery than runny, which might put you off if you're particular about your meals. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a casual get-together—worth popping in for the experience, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe avoid peak times for a smoother visit.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The building is absolutely stunning, with its grand historic features that make you feel like you're stepping back in time—it's one of the nicest Wetherspoons I've come across.
-
Service is spot on, with friendly staff and quick delivery, especially when you use the handy app to order right at your table.
-
Food and drinks offer great value, like that all-day brunch which is hearty and affordable, plus a solid selection of ales to choose from.
-
The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, with plenty of space including intimate nooks alongside a massive central area, and they do a lovely job with decorations like at Christmas.
Cons
-
The layout has a few awkward spots, like that narrow walkway between the bar and tables that can get a bit congested and lead to some polite but frustrating standoffs.
-
Food quality isn't always perfect—some dishes, like the fried eggs in the breakfast, can be overcooked and leave you feeling a tad off, which is a shame when the rest is usually spot on.
-
It can get busy, so you might have to navigate around crowds, and while it's generally clean, it's worth keeping in mind if you're after a more relaxed vibe.

Great Wetherspoons in Harrogate. Stopped there for lunch on a day visit. Very impressive building, one of the nicest Wetherspoons I have visited. Used the phone app to order food and drinks at the table. Service was quick with friendly staff and good food. I would definitely visit again.
Gorgeous building, inside and out. Retains the grand splendor of its heyday.
Good layout for the most part: massive central area complemented with a handful of more intimate smaller spaces; only issue with layout is the narrow walkway between the bar and the tables causes too many 'you first' 'no I must insist'.
The food is clearly handmade with specially selected local ingredients, or possibly mass produced frozen slop microwaved/deep-fried to order. Actually the chips were better than most Spoons.
Friendly staff, quick food service. My only gripe is with the fried eggs (I had a breakfast) as the yolks were overcooked and not runny and the whites were rubbery, made me feel a bit sickly actually which is very unusual for me as my hubby calls me a dustbin!
Usual Spoons , renovation on a massive scale keeping the beautiful building alive. Huge in size very well decorated , friendly staff great choice of ales and clean. Christmas decor everywhere..
Recommend this place.

Great atmosphere and the great value you come to expect from your local Wetherspoons, this one just has a wow factor, featuring some rather fancy stairs if you enter from Parliament Street, we decided to have an All Day Brunch, this was more then enough food for the price, plus the free drink included also, definitely keeps you going for the day.
