About This Pub
Ah, The Wheatsheaf, it's one of those reliable Wetherspoon haunts that you pop into for a no-fuss pint or a hearty meal without breaking the bank. I have to say, the prices are spot on; you can snag a full breakfast with a hot drink for around a fiver, and their beers are just as cheap, which makes it ideal if you're out for a casual evening or a quick bite near Overpool railway station. The vibe is cheerful and bustling, with a friendly crowd and nice touches like the racing channel on the screens or a dart lane for a bit of fun. But, let's be honest, it's not without its flaws – I've heard a few grumbles about the place looking a bit untidy, with dusty spots behind the bar and tables that aren't always spotless, and the staff can come across as a bit distant at times, which might leave you waiting longer than you'd like for that drink. All in all, though, if you're after good value and a lively atmosphere in Ellesmere Port, it's worth giving it a go, just keep your expectations realistic for a chain pub.
Pros and Cons

It's incredibly affordable, with pints and breakfasts coming in at pocket-friendly prices – perfect for a budget night out.
-
The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, making it a great spot for a casual catch-up with friends over some decent food.
-
They offer a solid selection of grub, especially their breakfast options, and there are fun extras like a dart lane and racing on the telly.
Cons
-
Cleanliness can be a real letdown; some areas feel a bit grubby, with dusty shelves and tables that aren't up to scratch.
-
The staff sometimes seem a tad uninterested or forgetful, which can make waiting for drinks or service feel a bit frustrating.
-
Heating issues might crop up, like it being turned off unexpectedly, leaving things a bit chilly when you're trying to relax.

Cheap and cheerful with decent food and a bustling friendly atmosphere. Also do a great breakfast selection
The one star is for the price of the beer . The pub itself is filthy , the bottles on shelf behind bar are full of dust , and management turn the heating off when they think there is enough people in pub to create heat . Not a nice place to go
Converted from a former pub - hence the ground floor loos. Good to see they’ve got the 🐎 Racing Channel on 📺 and they even have a 🎯 lane. Limited choice of guest cask ales.
Very pleased with my visit here on my Wetherspoons's tour. This one was the 471st that I've visited.
Good breakfast with mushrooms and a hot drink for around a fiver. I had 2 pints of Peerless Peninsula for less than £2 each.
Large frontage and close to Overpool railway station.
Very busy.. ordered over the app.. the food was really nice and good value for money.. I felt the staff didn't want to be there. And didn't interact very well with us.. we waited over 15 minutes for a drink to be brought to the table which they forgot.. not very clean in the place. No ketchup.. tables were not wiped
