About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Wheat Sheaf, it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a relaxed catch-up with friends. The atmosphere is spot on – super friendly and community-oriented, with that genuine warmth that makes you feel like you've stepped into a local favourite. I love how they've nailed the beer selection; those hand-pulled ales are an absolute treat, and it's clear from the reviews that folks really appreciate the effort that goes into keeping everything in top condition. Plus, the little extras like homemade toasties and being dog-friendly add such a nice homely touch – it's those details that make a visit memorable, especially on a chilly evening by the open fire. On the downside, though, it's a smaller spot, so if you're planning a big gathering, you might find it a bit snug and end up jostling for space. The food is straightforward and tasty, but it's not going to satisfy if you're after something more substantial, and it's a shame there's no website to easily check out the latest on events or hours. All in all, it's a solid choice for a pint and a chat, and with ratings as high as 4.7, it's easy to see why it's a go-to in the area – I'd say give it a try if you're after that authentic pub experience without any fuss.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's a cozy and friendly community pub with a welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
  • They've got a cracking selection of beers, especially those hand-pulled ales that are just spot on.
  • The homemade toasties and simple snacks like crisps and peanuts are a lovely touch for a quick nibble.
  • It's dog-friendly with water and treats available, which is brilliant if you're popping in with your four-legged mate.
  • The open fires, particularly on cold winter nights, add a real snug and heart-warming feel to the place.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit on the small side, so if you're with a larger group, it might get a tad cramped.
  • The food options are pretty limited, mostly just snacks and toasties, so it's not the spot for a proper sit-down meal.
  • Without a website, it's a bit tricky to get the latest info online – you're relying on reviews or a quick call.

Very cozy and friendly community boozer. Small but nice selection of beers, nice homemade toasties and usual selection crisps, peanuts and other snacks. Drinking water for dogs as well as little treats. Staff eat a lot of chocolate ... that's not a criticism!!

This old fashioned pub is a fantastic place, you always get a warm welcome and beer that is kept in perfect condition. It has a great atmosphere with open fires in both rooms, the back room being a little snug area. Great at Christmas when the salvation are come and squeeze into the pub for a sing along.
