About This Pub
Ah, The Swashbuckle Pub—it's one of those places that really captures the spirit of a good old British boozer with its quirky ship-like design, making you feel like you're on an adventure right in the heart of Cleethorpes. I love how they've got that mix of classic and modern music playing, and the live sessions add a real buzz, especially if you're up for a game of pool or just chilling with a cocktail in hand. The staff are genuinely lovely, always up for a chat, and it's great to see they've made the place accessible for everyone, which means no one's left out of the fun. On the flip side, it can get a bit hectic at the bar when things are buzzing, and I've heard a few tales of the door staff being a bit heavy-handed, which isn't ideal if you're just nipping in for a quick one. Plus, some drinks might hit your wallet a little harder than expected, and the decor inside could use a touch of TLC to keep up with the theme's charm. All in all, it's a solid choice for a night out if you're in the area, but maybe plan for a quieter visit or keep an eye on your budget—honestly, it's got that welcoming feel that makes you want to return, warts and all.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The nautical theme is absolutely brilliant—it's like stepping onto a ship, with life rings and a curved bar that really sets the mood for a fun night out.
-
Friendly staff who make you feel welcome; they've got that warm, chatty vibe that makes popping in for a drink a pleasure.
-
A great mix of music from the 60s up to now, plus live sessions and bar games like pool, which keep things lively and entertaining.
-
Outdoor seating that's relaxed and clean, perfect for enjoying a pint on a nice evening.
-
They're well set up for everyone with wheelchair-accessible entrances, seating, toilets, and even the car park, so it's inclusive for all.
-
Solid selection of drinks including beer, cocktails, spirits, and wine, with options like Aspall Cider that hit the spot.
Cons
-
Service at the bar can get a bit backed up when it's busy, like when there are queues five deep, which might leave you waiting a tad too long for your round.
-
Prices can feel a bit steep in places—nearly £6 for a Guinness in Cleethorpes might make you think twice, especially when other spots offer similar for less.
-
There have been some reports of aggressive door staff, which could put a damper on things if you're just looking for a quick stop.
-
The inside could do with a bit of a spruce-up; it's a typical pub atmosphere, but it feels like it needs a freshen-up to match its charming theme.

Good mixture of music from 60s to present day mixes. Bar service cancelled be a problem when 5 deep at the bar but that's the same anywhere as busy.
Nice bar, says real ale but only on keg, Guinness was good, the bar itself is lovely, a ship! Who knew! Girl serving was lovely and friendly, but nearly £6 for just a Guinness!!!! In cleethorpes!!!!! Cool for lager drinkers, colors a lot cheaper, oh well, wanted to try it, tried it, back to the nottingham now for an actual real ale at a reasonable price.
Very aggressive doormen told could use the toilet they were close plenty of people still in the place said I wanted a quick pee and would be out at this point he lay hands on me told them you can push me for no reason at this point and doorman came over and they both bushed me out of the door think I was picked on because I was sober and was with a female friend not like other who were absolutely drunk out of there heads and wasn’t on there own so won’t be going back there again and it was 1/2 hour to go in till it close or they said it closed people be warned full of drunks and not a nice place.
Went to Swashbuckle for a couple of drinks on a Friday night. It's a very typical type pub atmosphere. Could maybe do with a little face lift inside but overall it's a good pub. Drinks were the standard price to expect in the Grimsby area and service was good. They have a pool table which is available to use up until round 9pm then it gets covered up to avoid potential damage later on at night.
This was a superb pub for drinking, set in the shape and aesthetic of a boat! The life rings and curved counter with red to blue colours helps mostly with this, staff were very nice too. Outside seating is relaxed and clean, where I had a pint of Aspall Cider!
