About This Pub
Ah, The Spirit Merchant – it's one of those reliable Wetherspoon haunts that always delivers when you're after a good night out without emptying your wallet. I have to say, what really stands out is the incredible value; you're getting top-notch pints and hearty meals at prices that make you wonder how they do it – like snagging a Guinness for £3.50 when elsewhere it's double that. The food's a proper highlight too; whether it's the spicy chicken wings or a classic fish and chips, it's all done well and they even have smaller options for when you're not famished. Plus, the staff are generally quick with a smile, making you feel right at home. On the flip side, it does get packed, especially in the evenings, so it might not be the best for a peaceful chat, and being a chain pub, it lacks that cosy, one-of-a-kind feel you get in some local gems. Still, for what it is, it's a solid choice if you're looking for an affordable spot to relax with mates, and that outdoor terrace is a nice touch on a sunny day. All in all, it's worth a visit for the bargains alone, but keep in mind it might not wow you with anything extraordinary.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The value for money is spot on – you get cracking deals on pints and meals, like a pint of Guinness for just £3.50, which is a steal compared to other spots.
-
The food's always a treat; from tasty chicken wings to cod and chips, it's reliably good and they even offer smaller portions for a lighter bite.
-
Service is quick and cheerful, making for a pleasant visit whether you're popping in for a swift one or settling in for the evening.
-
There's a lovely outdoor terrace that's perfect for enjoying a drink when the weather's on your side, adding a bit of fresh air to the experience.
-
Special offers, like cheap pints on Mondays, make it an absolute winner for budget-conscious folk looking to have a good time without breaking the bank.
Cons
-
It can get a bit bustling at times, especially during peak hours, which might make it feel a tad overwhelming if you're after a quiet pint.
-
As it's a Wetherspoon chain, the atmosphere is pretty standard – it's functional and friendly, but it doesn't have that unique local charm some independent pubs offer.
-
Service, while generally speedy, might occasionally feel a bit rushed on busier days, so you could wait a smidge longer for your order.

The food is really very good. Drinks and pricing are excellent. Service is fast and friendly. Pricing really outshines other establishments.
How can Wetherspoons charge £3.50 a pint of Guinness for example, when others charge between 6.50 up to 8.50, 9.00 + in some Belfast pubs?
Wetherspoons like any other wetherspoon offers you the most bang for your buck. Especially Mondays where a pint of Guinness will set you back around £ 2.5 . You cannot get that much Value anywhere in northern ireland. They also have a great menu and the chicken wings with naga chilli dip is to die for. Cheap food cheap drink so don't expect world class service there. But it's okay. Parking is difficult to find but still there are paid street parking available. They are open till 1 am on weekends and Fridays and serve food till 12 on weekends.
Called in here about 2.30pm for a late lunch/early dinner. I was pleased to see they do small versions of meals. I had the Cod & Chips with Mushy Peas and a pint of Guinness for £7.92 now that can't be bad. There was a good crowd in for that time of day.
The food was good and the service took so I'll definitely be back.
First time coming here and it was pretty good. They have a big terrace to enjoy the place when it's not raining. I will come back here for sure.
Very cheap food and alcohol
Quality always nice. Recommend 👍
