About This Pub
Ah, The Ship – what a delightful spot it is down in Scarborough! I have to say, from what I've gathered from the reviews and a bit of my own imagining, it's one of those pubs that just draws you in with its friendly vibe. You walk in and it's all about that lively atmosphere, with live music and events that keep things entertaining – I can picture folks tapping their feet and chatting away over a pint. The service stands out as a real highlight; the team there seems genuinely caring, making sure everyone's looked after, whether it's a busy night or a quiet one. And the drinks? Well, they've got a good range, with that double spirits option being a clever little perk for those wanting to make the most of their evening. Plus, with outdoor seating, it's perfect for soaking up the sea air if the weather plays ball. On the downside, though, if you're partial to a nice glass of wine, you might find the choices a bit basic – just the essentials, really, which is a shame for anyone hoping for more variety. Food-wise, it doesn't seem to offer much beyond some crisps, so you'd probably want to grab a bite beforehand to avoid going hungry. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed get-together with mates, but it's worth going in with realistic expectations to keep things balanced and enjoyable.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely welcoming and lively, with live music and events that really get the crowd going – it's a proper fun spot for a night out.
-
The service is top-notch; the staff, like the landlady Charlotte and her team, go above and beyond to make you feel right at home.
-
They've got a solid selection of drinks, including spirits where you can double up, and the pints are of good quality – well worth it for a cheeky tipple.
-
Plenty of outdoor seating makes it ideal for enjoying a drink in the fresh air, especially on a sunny day in Scarborough.
Cons
-
The wine selection is a bit on the slim side, with just one red and one white option, which might leave wine enthusiasts feeling a tad underwhelmed.
-
Food options seem limited to snacks like crisps, so if you're after a proper meal, you might need to head elsewhere before popping in.
-
The website is a bit of a head-scratcher – it's all about cars and mechanics rather than the pub, which could confuse anyone trying to learn more about the place.

The summer of 1976,brilliant pub we met a couple from Scotland, Archie and Brenda, they were staying in the pub Archie played the drums. Returned 2 years later and bumped into them again, hence saying we had 2 brilliant holidays and spent most of our time in the Ship, it looks as if it's still going well, A lot older now but we're going to drop in again soon.🙂
Pleasant atmosphere, made welcome, plenty always going on for people
Lovely welcoming pub. Good choice of drinks and fantastic service the landlady charlotte and her team are just amazing it was very busy and a great atmosphere. Double up on the spirits is well worth it. Would definitely come again. Sport on all the tvs good quality pint well worth a visit
We were lucky to pop in on a night when there was live music playing. A folksy duo kept the place in good spirits, and the lovely woman behind the bar kept us well watered 😉
Not sure if they serve food since we arrived late, but had some crisps to munch on. There's plenty of outdoor seating, however all drinks must stay inside as of 8:30pm as it's located in a residential part of the neighborhood.
A good atmosphere when we arrived, football was playing on a couple of big screens. We were a little disappointed with the choice of wines on offer, one type of red and one type of white. Prices are typical for Scarborough. We found a seat but it was getting busy as there was live music planned to start at 9pm. We enjoyed our relaxed drink and we were sorry to leave but we had a table booked at a restaurant at 8pm.
