About This Pub

Ah, the Shephall Tavern – it's one of those neighbourhood gems that just feels like a second home once you're inside. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the staff are top-notch, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels welcome, which really sets the tone for a relaxed evening. The place is impeccably clean, with cosy seating areas, a buzzing bar, and even spaces for events like weddings or parties, as one couple shared about their special day being made even better with fantastic food and helpful service. It's got all the classics you'd want in a pub – tasty bar grub, a solid range of drinks, and entertainment like karaoke nights that can turn into a right laugh with mates. Plus, if you're into sports or fancy a game of pool, there are TVs and a table ready to go, and it's great for dog walkers looking for a pit stop. On the flip side, though, the kitchen's on the smaller side, so if you're planning to eat, you might end up waiting a bit for your order, as it seems they handle things one at a time to keep up. That could be a minor annoyance on busier days, and with things seeming a touch quieter lately, it might not always have that full-on pub energy. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back get-together, but I'd say go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and make you feel right at home, with their friendly chats and welcoming vibe.
  • It's spotlessly clean and well-maintained, which really adds to the comfortable atmosphere.
  • They've got a great selection of bar food and drinks, perfect for a casual catch-up or a fun night out.
  • Fun extras like karaoke on Fridays, a pool table, and TVs showing sports make it a lively spot for evenings.
  • The outdoor area is tidy and inviting, and it's dog-friendly, so you can pop in with your furry friend after a walk.
Cons
  • The kitchen can be a bit small, leading to waits for food, which might put a dampener on things if you're in a rush.
  • Service hiccups have been mentioned, like not being able to order straight away, so it might not be ideal for big groups wanting a quick meal.
  • With fewer recent reviews, it feels like the buzz has quieted down a tad, so you might want to check it's still hopping before heading over.

First Impression Was Great,The Pub Was Very Clean And Well Looked After. There Was Quite A Few Of Us Looking To Eat But Was Told That The Kitchen Was Small And We Would Have To Wait Until Each Order Was Out Before Ordering Another,Which We Were Happy About But After 2 Orders Was Told That The Kitchen Had Closed So Half Of Our Party Went Without! But Those Who Ate Said The Food Was Very Nice. We Also Ordered A Fruit Shoot For One Of The Children And Inside Was Full Of Mould. The Landlady Didn't Come Across Very Friendly When She Was Thanked For The Food She Turned Her Back And Just Walked Off. The Landlord Also Told Us That Its Not A Very Child Friendly Pub. So Im Afraid We Wont Be Going Back To The Shephall Tavern.

I go to the Shephall tavern quite often. I always feel at home there in the comfortable friendly bar area. The Landlord and his wife are friendly and always good to talk to. Friday night there is a Karaoke night which can be good fun. There is some nice bar food and a good range of drinks, all reasonably priced.

We had our wedding reception here in December 2022. Staff were friendly and very helpful with booking it and on our special day. Food catering was fantastic, well presented and lots of choice. Thank you so much for making our day that little more special. Sorry for the late review.

We popped in for a pint when walking the dog as had heard it was under new ownership. Very nice pub with a smaller bar area and larger seated area to the side plus a modern outside area. I'd recommend going past ( and in) if out with the dog!

Great pub. Came across it by accident. Very friendly team behind the bar. Spotlessly clean. Pool table and a number of TVs showing sport. Large smoking area out back (although I don’t smoke), but it was tidy & clean. There is a room through the back that is obviously for parties or small weddings etc. Nice clientele and loads of parking space outside near the surrounding shops and restaurants. I can really recommend this pub/bar. I will definitely be visiting again whilst working in Stevenage.
