About This Pub
Ah, let me tell you about The Scratching Post – it's one of those neighbourhood spots in Cleethorpes that just draws you in with its easygoing charm. From what I've gathered from the reviews and a bit of my own imagining, the staff are absolute gems; they're quick with a smile and some good-natured chat, making every visit feel like catching up with mates. The beer selection is pretty decent too, with a variety of options that keep things interesting without costing a fortune, and that outside area is just brilliant for soaking up the sun while enjoying a drink and maybe even bringing the furry friends along. It's buzzing with a diverse crowd, whether folks are popping in for the footy on the screens or just for a relaxed afternoon, and being open all week from early morning to late evening makes it a reliable go-to. On the flip side, it's a shame they don't have any real ales on tap – that might put off those who fancy a more authentic pint. Plus, the modern setup gives it a contemporary edge, which isn't everyone's cup of tea if you're yearning for that traditional pub cosiness. And without a website, it's a bit tricky to check things out beforehand, but overall, it's a solid choice for a laid-back outing. If you're in the area, I'd say give it a try – you might just end up making it your regular haunt!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and always up for a bit of banter, which really makes you feel at home.
-
They've got a solid selection of beers, lagers, and ciders, so there's something to suit most tastes without breaking the bank.
-
The outside seating area is a real treat, especially on a sunny day – perfect for chatting with the locals and bringing along the dogs.
-
It's got a lively and welcoming atmosphere with a mix of people, whether you're there for a quiet drink or to catch the game on the TVs.
-
Being open from 9am to 11pm every day means it's super convenient for a spontaneous pint or a relaxed afternoon session.
Cons
-
It's a bit short on traditional real ales, which might leave some disappointed if you're after that classic cask-conditioned flavour.
-
The modern style of the bar could feel a tad impersonal compared to those cosy, old-school pubs, depending on what you're in the mood for.
-
With no website or online presence, it's not the easiest to get the latest info or book ahead, which might be a hassle for planning a visit.

Good local pub-- was there Oct 24 -- will be again 2 weeks today --looking forward to it.
Great little pub with really friendly staff, good banter and good beer.
Very good sat outside with the dogs in the sunshine, talking to the locals
The scratching post is a modern style bar in a very popular area with two other pubs almost next door. With a wide variety of beers, lagers, and cider. Sadly, there are no cask conditioned real ales. The staff are nice and friendly. There are TV screens and an outside seating area.
A diverse clientele in there, some to watch the world cup, others just having their usual drink, a great little pub with no trouble and a great atmosphere. Apart from the world cup comments its still a great little bar, I was in Friday evening, very busy, and Sunday afternoon, got busy for the Newcastle/ Man U match but still a great atmosphere with excellent staff.
