About This Pub
Ah, The Running Horse – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Sunbury-on-Thames, you know? From the moment you walk in, the staff make you feel right at home with their warm welcomes and speedy service, and the food is genuinely brilliant – think flame-grilled burgers and those famous sizzling skillets made with fresh ingredients, plus plenty of vegan and veggie choices that don't feel like an afterthought. The prices are fair too, with deals like the double fish and chips for £13 that leave you feeling chuffed without breaking the bank, and little extras like app discounts add a nice touch. It's spacious enough for a group gathering or just chilling with mates over a drink, and they're proper community-minded, helping out with local charities and all. But, to keep it real, the operating hours can be a bit all over the place based on what's listed, and that overall rating of 4.0 suggests there might be the occasional slip-up, like service not being quite as snappy or food that's not up to par every time. Still, if you're after a relaxed spot for a bite and a bevvy, it's worth a go – just pop in when you know it's open, and you'll likely have a top-notch time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and quick to help – it's like popping round to a mate's for a chat.
-
The food is spot on, with fresh ingredients and options for everyone, including tasty sizzling skillets and burgers that hit the spot, all at honest, affordable prices.
-
Great value deals, like the double fish and chips for just £13, make it a brilliant spot for a budget-friendly meal without skimping on quality.
-
It's got that perfect mix of cosy and spacious vibes, whether you're settling in for a relaxed evening or watching the footie with friends.
-
They've got some nice perks, like discounts through their app and being involved in the community, which adds a real local feel to the place.
Cons
-
The operating hours seem a bit inconsistent from what I've seen, which might catch you out if you're planning a visit on a whim.
-
With an overall rating of 4.0, it's clear not every visit is perfect, so you might run into the odd off day or mixed experience.
-
It's listed as currently closed, which could mean it's not always open when you'd expect, so it's worth double-checking before heading over.

Amazing staff speedy service, also loving the new menu
Love this place, great value, cozy yet spacious, double fish n chips for 13 pound amazing!
Just come back to the Running Horse for a bite to eat as we have the Sizzlers App so we had a discount for our whole order after using our app each time we come in, Remi was the chef today and every single bite of our food was delicious, I’ve taken a few pics but we’d already started eating it as it was so nice! So lovely, so filling, everything was hot, the wings were the best, so crunchy, lovely sauces that came with it too! Thoroughly recommend!! The staff behind the bar, Ed and Jason were very helpful (and patient as we had our children with us making everything longer!)
First time visitor to The Running Horse, came in Sunday (30th June) afternoon / evening time to watch the football with a few drinks, and have some food.
Genuine welcome feeling from start to finish, with all the staff friendly and happy to help with anything needed.
Loads of space inside and out, perfect for when the suns out for a bit to chill in the quiet garden with a cold pint in hand.
Lots of seats reserved for the England game, but equally loads free so had no problem at all getting a top spot to watch and chill for a few hours.
Ordering at the bar and through the app - both just as good and no problems at all using either - quick service on both so no complaints at all.
Had the classic grilled chicken burger with fries - was hot, fresh and full of flavour - great price at £7.49!
I review quite a few places on Google, and should point out this is not a stuck-up high end posh pub so isn't going to be to everyone's taste. Personally - I love it here, down to earth friendly people with good prices.
Conclusion: 5* all round. Will definitely return!
Lovely friendly staff, food was very nice and very reasonably priced. Even when I asked for more mayo, the waiter came out with a brand new bottle that I had to take the cover off, so I knew it was the real mayo and not bulk poured into the brand bottle.
