About This Pub

Ah, The Royal Oak – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a proper British night out. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the food really steals the show; whether it's a perfectly cooked steak, a fabulous Sunday roast, or those affordable set menus, it's clear this place knows how to serve up hearty, home-cooked grub that'll leave you satisfied. The staff are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly, which adds to that warm, welcoming feel of a traditional local. Plus, with perks like a beer garden for sunnier days and live music to liven things up, it's got that community spirit we all love. On the flip side, though, the opening times might catch you out if you're after an early session, as it doesn't kick off until the afternoon on most weekdays, and it can get a tad busy, so planning ahead is probably a good idea to snag a table. Overall, it's a solid choice for anyone in Coventry looking for good value, good company, and a bit of that classic pub charm – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think amazing steaks, hearty Sunday dinners, and great value meals like pork belly for just £13, which is a real bargain.
  • The staff are lovely and friendly, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's a warm, welcoming traditional pub with a great atmosphere, complete with a beer garden, live music, and family-friendly vibes.
  • They've got a solid selection of drinks, including nice beers, and it's wheelchair accessible with WiFi, so it's handy for a relaxed catch-up.
Cons
  • Opening hours can be a bit limited on weekdays, starting from 3pm, which might not suit those looking for a lunchtime pint or meal.
  • It seems to get quite popular, so you might need to book ahead to avoid missing out, especially for food.

Myself and friend visited for dinner. Neither of us had been to this pub for many years. We were pleasantly surprised at the current decor of the lounge/dining area. Having decided on the 2 courses for £13.95, I had tomato soup and crusty bread, my friend the mushrooms on bruschetta. Both were very tasty. Next we both had rump steak cooked medium rare. Steaks were juicy and tender with all the yummy trimmings. We'll both be back and can recommend.
