About This Pub
So, if you're after a cosy little inn with a bit of history in Hertfordshire, The Roebuck Inn definitely has its charms – it's got that warm, welcoming feel with staff who go out of their way to make your visit smooth and enjoyable. The Indian restaurant on site is an absolute highlight, dishing out flavoursome curries and fresh meals that leave you satisfied, and perks like free parking and WiFi make it a practical choice for anyone travelling for work or leisure. It's conveniently placed near London and other local spots, which is brilliant if you're out and about. On the downside, the rooms are a touch outdated and could do with some modernisation, and the beds aren't the most comfortable, so it might not be the best for a relaxing pamper session. All things considered, it's a solid pick for a no-nonsense night out or a quick stopover, as long as you keep your expectations realistic – I've had some great evenings there catching the game with a drink, but it's not going to wow you with fancy frills.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolute gems, always friendly and helpful, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
The on-site Indian restaurant, Nirvana, serves up some cracking curries and tasty dishes that are perfect for a hearty meal after a long day.
-
Free parking and WiFi are a real treat, adding to the convenience, especially if you're popping in for a business trip or a quick getaway near London.
-
The location's spot on, with easy access to nearby attractions like Knebworth and a short drive from the city, ideal for exploring Hertfordshire.
Cons
-
The rooms can feel a bit dated and in need of a spruce-up, giving it more of a no-frills vibe rather than anything luxurious.
-
Beds might not be as comfy as you'd hope, with some folks finding them a tad firm, which could make for a restless night if you're picky about your sleep.
-
It's more suited to functional stays like work trips than a romantic escape or family outing, as it lacks that extra polish in places.

Our stay at Roebuck Inn was really good, the place is super clean and is in the perfect position for our trips to Cambridge. Parking is included, the room was large, including the bathroom, and it comes with several services. Plus, the facility also serves like bar and restaurant, and a spacious and quiet garden with seating and tables is available too. We'll certainly be back, do recommend.
We stayed here to visit family nearby. Convenient location. Friendly and helpful staff. Good rates. Amazing on site Indian restaurant (Nirvana). The rooms are basic / dated but functional. Nice selection of tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival. Would stay again.
I had a very nice stay at this hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was nice and warm even though it was very cold outside. The only small issue is the comfort of the bed. I prefer a softer bed. I did mange to sleep though.
Very much a 3 star at best, unfortunately very run down in places and in need of refurbishment throughout. Saying that staff are super helpful and best feature is the restaurant that serves good Indian food. Ideal for me for work, but probably not a place for romantic break or to take family. Good location at southern end of Stevenage.
Sep 24 Update, rooms still not great but food still excellent!
Old fashioned pub with a good number of rooms. Ideal for a overnight stay for business or a local get together. Staff very friendly and helpful, supplied recommended taxi and multiple other numbers if busy. Food and restaurant was excellent for a evening meal. Room had the normal facilities, was clean and tidy, very strong scented spray used, carpets and curtains dated and needed cleaning, bathroom needed a little maintenance around shower and the floor was super slippery and almost dangerous. Only a short walk to the roaring Meg retail park.
