About This Pub
Ah, The Rising Sun – it's one of those pubs that just warms your cockles on a chilly evening, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks absolutely rave about the top-quality real ales; they're well-kept and come with a great selection that includes some cracking guest brews, making it a haven for beer enthusiasts. The atmosphere is spot on too – think cosy chats, a welcoming crowd, and staff who make you feel like a regular from day one. Prices are fair, and those cheese and onion cobs are a simple delight that hit the spot without breaking the bank. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect; there are times when the darker ales might be missing from the taps, which could leave you wanting more variety, and while they've got the odd duff pint sorted quickly, it's a reminder that consistency isn't always guaranteed. Still, with its community spirit and events like quizzes or live music, it's a solid spot for a pint or two, and I'd say it's well worth popping in if you're in the area – just manage your expectations for a fuller menu.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The selection of real ales is absolutely spot on, with well-kept cask options and even some guest brews that make every visit feel special.
-
The atmosphere is so welcoming and friendly, with a real community vibe that makes you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
Prices are really reasonable, especially for a quality pint and those tasty cheese and onion cobs – they're a proper treat.
-
The staff are brilliant, always up for a chat and quick to sort out any issues, which adds to that cosy, traditional pub charm.
Cons
-
Sometimes the beer choices can be a bit limited, like when dark ales aren't on offer, which might disappoint if that's your go-to.
-
There have been a few mentions of the odd bad pint, though it's swiftly replaced, so it's not a deal-breaker but worth noting.
-
Food options seem pretty basic, mostly sticking to things like cobs, so if you're after a full meal, you might need to look elsewhere.

Great little pub, friendly atmosphere, didn't give a rating for food but their cheese and onion cobs are excellent.
Lovely BCA pub, serves real ales kept well including guest ales. Unfortunately this visit no dark ales on only a bitter the darkest.
Great selection of beers and cobs. Great atmosphere. Very friendly people. They had the Jubilee IPA on when we visited. Well kept. Always a good find. We will definitely return one day
Friendly staff and people. We had a bad pint , but was willingly changed so no problem. Good range of beers and good value cheese and onion rolls.
What a fantastic, well kept Black Country boozer with really great bar staff. Well worth going out of your way to visit. Huge choice of well kept cask ales at very reasonable prices.
