About This Pub
Ah, The Raven – it's one of those reliable Wetherspoon spots that you pop into for a quick pint or a bite without breaking the bank. I have to say, what really stands out is how affordable everything is; you can snag a traditional breakfast or even a craft beer for next to nothing, which makes it perfect for a casual meet-up with friends. The atmosphere inside has that cosy, traditional pub charm that's a nice change from the busier city centre ones, and the staff are usually up for a chat, making you feel right at home. On the flip side, though, the food can be a bit inconsistent – one visit you might get a cracking meal, but the next time it could be underwhelming, like a pizza that's far from impressive or specials that aren't actually on offer, which is a proper letdown. And let's not forget, it's easy to miss if you're not looking closely, tucked away among the shops. All in all, it's a decent choice for us pub goers who appreciate value for money, but I'd say go in with realistic expectations and maybe stick to the classics to avoid any surprises.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The prices are spot on for a Wetherspoon – you can get a hearty breakfast or a craft beer for under a tenner, which is brilliant for keeping things affordable without skimping on options.
-
The atmosphere has that proper traditional pub feel, making it a welcoming spot for a relaxed catch-up with mates, especially if you're after something more local and less hectic than the city centre ones.
-
Staff are generally quite pleasant and helpful, with table service that's efficient when it works well, adding to the friendly vibe.
Cons
-
Food quality can be hit or miss; some dishes have nosedived in standards, like pizzas that leave you disappointed and questioning the kitchen's efforts.
-
Special offers on the tables aren't always live, which is frustrating if you're excited about a deal only to find out it's not available and you have to pay full whack.
-
It's a bit tricky to spot from the street, blending in with the shops on Walton Vale, so you might walk right past it without realising.

Tables had a special on mostly everytable on a sheet of A4 i was like ya that looks good goes up to order it and it's not even on had to pay full price why leave the all on the table it's 2pm if they not on take them off the table. Table service was fine till service didn't even say sorry about that etc just wasn't bothered in the slightest. I thought I would try this spoons as I had bad grub from the maghull one
I ordered a pizza and this was what I got served. The kitchen should be embarrassed, the food quality here has nosedived and the standards need to change.
Great local and honest Wetherspoons pub. Much better than the city centre ones here in Liverpool. The food was excellent all week and very reasonable in price. Lovely atmosphere inside...proper traditional feel. Enjoyed our visits here, happy to return.
It's not a typical historical building in comparison to other JDWs. The breakfast wasn't too bad and the staff were quite pleasant. I didn't see a beer garden.
Unlimited hot drinks (one machine needed attention), traditional breakfast, and a craft beer for under a tenner
A nice and friendly little Spoons. As we were in Walton Vale we called in for a lovely hot chocolate. It was quite hard to find as with other Spoons establishments that are big and unusual buildings, the Raven blended in with the local shops along the high street so is quite easy to miss. Once inside you get the feel of a cosy smallish interior with just one floor space and tgen slightly raised booths at the side. Service was quick and it was quite busy in there for an afternoon. You can imagine it being more locals in there as there is no car park so passing custom would easily miss it and possibly leave it as nowhere to park. Not a bad little spoons and worth popping into if in the area
