About This Pub
Ah, The Railway Inn—it's one of those pubs that just warms your cockles with its welcoming atmosphere and that homely touch from the new owners. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff are absolute stars, always up for a chat and making sure everything's spot on, while the place itself is kept spick and span with a classic decor that takes you back to the good old days. The ales are top-notch and won't set you back much, and let's not forget that beer garden by the canal—it's a proper treat on a sunny afternoon, perfect for whiling away the hours with friends. On the flip side, it is a bit tucked away, so if you're not nearby, it might not be the most convenient stop. Plus, with only five days open and some early finishes, you might have to plan around it, and their website's a bit of a let-down if you're looking for more details online. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back pint, and with that 4.2 rating, it's clear most folks are leaving chuffed, but it's worth keeping those quirks in mind for a balanced visit.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
It's spotlessly clean with a classic pub decor that's charming and well-maintained, giving it that authentic feel.
-
They've got a cracking selection of ales at smashing prices, perfect if you're after a good pint without breaking the bank.
-
The beer garden overlooking the canal is an absolute gem, especially on a sunny day—ideal for a relaxing sit-down with mates.
-
Its location on the outskirts of town offers a peaceful, canalside setting that's great for a quiet escape or a leisurely walk.
Cons
-
It might be a bit out of the way for those not in the area, so you could end up trekking a fair distance if you're not local.
-
The opening hours seem a tad limited, with only five days a week and early closures, which might not suit everyone’s plans.
-
Their online presence isn't the strongest—trying to check the website led to some errors, so it’s not the easiest to get info beforehand.

Lovely new owners, super friendly and pub looked so clean!
Surprising bonus when I found this one by chance when I was looking for something else. A nice selection of ales and out of the way just on the outer part of town. With a nice beer garden overlooking the canal. G great staff and smashing prices.
Very friendly reception, newly opened. Fabulous outdoor seating by the canal, lovely in the sunshine.
Lovely country pub, well kept beers and very clean, great canalside setting. Didn't eat as just on a walk but looks good
I last reviewed this pub 4 years ago as a 3/4 star.
Having been going more frequently recently, I'm updating my review to a solid 5.
The decor inside the pub is a throwback to how all pubs used to be (see video) and is maintained and looked after throughout. The current owners are extremely welcoming to anyone who passes through the front or back door. There is space to go as a large group or just with a friend (or even on your own as there are plenty of locals there). There is a rear outdoor seating area/smoking area overlooking the canal. The facilities are looked after and they smell clean. The beer selection is quite accommodating for all tastes and it tastes clean too. The drink selection is vast if you like certain spirits or mixers, this is a place for you. With a TV in the largest area of the bar, which provided well during the 2022 World Cup.
Staff look after and accommodate all. The locals are very welcoming and friendly. In the summer there is an area downstairs which has benches, next to the canal too.
A short walk from the town centre, so close to all methods of transport. The on-road parking outside is accommodating if you decide to drive or the snall car park around the rear. The current landlady and landlord have exciting plans for the pub and how to improve it too.
There are treat jars on the side of the bar if you decide to bring a pooch with you (there isn't many dogs in the pub and they tend to stick to one side, so if you have a fear of dogs don't let this deter you!) And access to the local canal pathway or pathway back to vines is immediately outside.
Definitely recommend visiting this pub if you haven't in a while! You'll be pleased!
