About This Pub

Ah, The Murray Bar, it's one of those neighbourhood gems in East Kilbride that I've heard so much about from folks around Glasgow. You know, it's got this cosy, inviting feel that just draws you in, with staff who are always up for a friendly natter and a pint that's poured just right. I love how they've packed in the entertainment – think pool tables, darts, live music, and that Saturday karaoke session that could turn into a right old singalong with your mates. It's affordable too, which is a bonus when you're out for a casual night. On the flip side, though, there have been a few stories of things getting a bit heated with some rowdy types, and it doesn't sound like the team always jumps in to calm things down straight away. Then there's the odd event where the music selection falls flat, like a DJ who kills the buzz, or those chilly evenings in summer that might have you reaching for an extra layer. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening, but I'd say go in with your eyes open and maybe check what's on before you head over – that way, you can make the most of the good bits and steer clear of any potential downsides.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's got that lovely, warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • The staff are super friendly and always up for a chat, which really adds to the local pub vibe.
  • Loads of fun things to do, like pool, darts, live music, and karaoke every Saturday from 9pm – perfect for a good laugh with mates.
  • Drinks are reasonably priced with well-kept options like Guinness, and they've got SKY TV for catching the big games.
  • They've a function room that's great for smaller events or gatherings, making it versatile for all sorts of occasions.
Cons
  • There have been a few incidents with unruly behaviour, and it seems the staff don't always step in quickly enough to sort things out.
  • Some events, like the DJ nights, can fall flat if the music choices aren't up to scratch, which has put a damper on parties before.
  • The heating can be a bit hit or miss, especially in the summer when it might feel a tad chilly inside.
  • Access is mostly via stairs, which isn't ideal if you're not keen on steps or have mobility concerns.

Best Pub in EK by a mile :)

Pub's been good to me for a long time and i've enjoyed going intermittently playing pools, darts having a laugh but last night the local nutter tried to fight me, which isn't the pubs problem in and of itself, but the staff and the locals doing nothing about an unreasonable person it just unacceptable. It's one of them "it's a local pub for local people we'll have no trouble here" yet i live right next to it but because I haven't put in a weekly appearance i'm sort of considered sub-class, i can only imagine what folk who go for the first time or rarely must feel when encountered by the neanderthals here.

Great friendly local pub. Was in to look at the Lounge for a function and stayed for a couple. Plenty of choice of lagers but only Guinness and John Smiths as draught ales and Newcastle in bottles. Racing TV on plus a pool table at the rear. Well kept pint of Guinness and reasonable prices.

Nice wee pub. Reasonable prices . Fair size function room . DJ was terrible not a single original artist on the music front killed the party as most guests agreed quite a few left Because of her choices despite being told to up the anti as party was dying a slow death. . Not sure who hired her though but would be well down the option choices for me . But liked the overall venue

It's OK here but I don't frequent to drink. A local pub I visit weekly for a slimming class. Not sure if they pay the heating bill in the summer so maybe bring a cardi? An older fashioned side room is fit for purpose and would be a good venue for similar groups or a cheaper bash. Mainly stairs access although easier to access via a couple of stairs if accessing from the Murray square. Have enjoyed drinks here in the past and it's much more value for money than pubs in the town centre.
