About This Pub

Ah, The Montgomerie Arms – what a gem of a spot in East Kilbride! I have to say, it's got this incredible historic charm that's just spot on, dating back to 1656, and you can really feel that old coaching inn atmosphere as soon as you step inside. The staff are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels welcome, which really makes the place shine. Plus, the drinks selection is brilliant, especially the whisky, and it's all at prices that won't break the bank, making it perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates. And if you're lucky enough to pop in on a Sunday, the folk music sessions are a real treat – they add such a fun, lively energy to the evening. On the downside, though, the decor hasn't seen much love since the 80s, so it might come across as a bit tired for those who prefer something more modern. Also, it's not the go-to place if you're after a hearty meal, as options seem a tad sparse, and the prices have nudged up over the years, which is a shame. All in all, it's a solid choice for a pint and good company, but it'd be even better with a few updates to keep that historic feel fresh.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely charming, like stepping back in time to a cosy historic inn with all the old-world vibes intact
  • Staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in
  • Drinks are reasonably priced, with a fantastic selection of whisky that really stands out
  • It's wonderfully pet-friendly, so you can bring your furry friend along for the fun
  • Live folk music on Sunday nights adds a lively touch and makes for a great evening out
Cons
  • The decor hasn't been updated in years, so it can feel a bit dated and worn in places
  • Food options seem limited or unclear, which might leave you wanting more if you're after a proper meal
  • Prices have crept up over time, which is a pity when you're hoping for a real bargain

Great Whiskey selection. Historic venue with historic staff (Connor in particular being there for time immemorial). Double friendly and always worth a visit when up there.

Always liked the Monty. Use to work there in 1984. Apart from decor nothing has really changed apart from prices. However still a great atmosphere. Always the same people sitting in the same seats and friendly staff.

Such a welcoming environment for man and beast! The beer is good, the staff are great, and the Sunday night folk music is excellent. The fact my dog is more welcome than me is an added bonus! He is much more handsome than me tho!
