About This Pub

Ah, The Moss Rose – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Bolton, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, whether you're there for a quiet pint or bringing along your dog for a relaxed afternoon. I love that they've got all the classics sorted, like a solid beer selection, outdoor spaces for when the weather's on your side, and fun bits like pool, darts, and live music that really get the crowd going. The Sunday quiz sounds like a blast too, adding that extra touch of community spirit. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – you might run into a few snags, like not getting to join in on the open mic if the band's in a funny mood, and if you're hoping for a bite to eat, well, there doesn't seem to be much on offer, which is a shame. Plus, with early closing times, it might not be the spot for a proper night out. Overall, though, with a solid 4.2 rating, it's worth a visit if you're in the area and fancy a laid-back spot with good vibes – just keep those expectations in check for the finer details.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • They've got a great selection of beers, including some non-alcoholic options, which is perfect if you're driving or just taking it easy.
  • Loads of fun activities on offer, like a pool table, dart board, live sports screenings, and even live music events that keep things lively.
  • Plenty of outside seating and parking, ideal for a sunny day or if you're popping in with your furry friend.
  • It's a clean, well-run spot with events like the Sunday quiz that add a real community vibe, and it's great for celebrations.
Cons
  • There might be hitches with some events, like open mic nights where not everyone gets a turn, which could leave you a bit disappointed.
  • Food options aren't really highlighted – I didn't spot any menus, so it might not be the go-to place if you're after a proper meal.
  • The closing times seem a tad early for a pub, wrapping up around 4 PM typically, which could cut your evening short.
  • No website means it's trickier to check out what's on or get more details before you head over.

This pub was a very nice place. The people were very friendly and made me feel welcome with my little dog called sausage. Unfortunately the band members on open mike night didn't open the mike to us. I asked politely if they would turn up the mike volume for us but they made all sorts of excuses why they couldn't. When the band members returned they asked for the volume to be turned up and hey presto there was no problem turning it up. Shame on them.

Smashing hospitality from the new owner Caroline... I Came here today to do some work, this great little pub has a lot to offer.. Pool table, Dart board, live sports, multiple outside spaces, the lower level has an outside bar and stage areas for the many live music events that are held like the Florentineshere on the 31st of August 🎶🎵🎶, multiple big screen Tvs inside and out Photos show The Moss Rose is very clean and well maintained throughout with inside Dj area. This is a great local pub with a great new owner... Good luck with the new venture. A New kitchen is going in currently so food may be an option in the near future 😎

Called in for an 80th birthday celebration, the place was clean, bar staff very pleasant, good range of beers also has 0% alcohol beers. We were allowed to use the kitchen to make cups of tea. One of the girls was called Emily who was very efficient.
