About This Pub
Ah, The Lord Nelson – what a cracking little spot it is, tucked away in Ashton-under-Lyne. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got that genuine, homely vibe that just draws you in; think lively chats, a welcoming landlady who's all about making sure you're sorted, and an atmosphere that feels like catching up with old mates. The beer is reasonably priced, which is always a win for keeping things affordable on a night out, and they've got the odd bit of live music or football on the telly to keep things entertaining. It's particularly nice to hear it's family-friendly and open to first-timers, making it easy to pop in without any fuss. On the flip side, though, there haven't been any fresh reviews lately, so you might wonder if it's still buzzing as it was back in 2023. Plus, with no online details or a website, it's a bit of a leap of faith to plan a visit. All in all, if you're after a straightforward, cheerful pub experience without the frills, this could be just the ticket – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, but keep in mind it might be more your traditional local rather than something flashy.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely brilliant – it's warm, welcoming, and feels like a proper community hub where everyone gets along.
-
The staff, especially the landlady, are incredibly friendly and go out of their way to make you feel at home, which really adds to the charm.
-
Beer prices are spot on for a budget night out; it's inexpensive without skimping on quality, so you can enjoy a few pints without breaking the bank.
-
They've got live music sometimes, like Irish tunes or singalongs, which can make you feel like you're off on a little adventure without leaving the pub.
-
It's great for watching the football, and there's a good selection of beers to choose from, making it a solid spot for casual meet-ups.
Cons
-
There haven't been any recent reviews, so it's hard to tell if things are still as lively as they were a couple of years back.
-
With no website or online presence to speak of, it might be tricky to check opening times or get in touch before heading over.
-
It seems like a small, traditional pub, which is lovely but might not suit those after something more modern or with a wider range of food options.

What a great little pub! My 2 friends and I went for dinner at Amaani and went to the Lord Nelson for an hour afterwards. There was 3-4 gentlemen playing guitars and singing beside the bar... Irish songs, bit of other stuff... It felt like we were in Ireland for the night. Loved it.
The lady behind the bar was nice and friendly... And it was a cheap couple of rounds too.
Thank you! We'll be back.
