About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about The Half Moon in Hitchin – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? From the moment you step in, the friendly team, led by folks like Freddy, make you feel right at home, whether you're there for a quick pint or celebrating something special. They've nailed the beer side of things with a fantastic rotating selection of real ales and ciders that keeps things exciting, and it's brilliant for dog owners since they roll out the red carpet for furry companions. The beer garden is a standout, offering loads of space to relax and socialise, and the live music really brings it to life, especially on those balmy summer evenings. On the flip side, it's a bit of a shame they don't do hot meals, so if you're peckish for more than a scrumptious pork pie or scotch egg, you might have to plan ahead. And that one humorous gripe about the pub's name not living up to expectations? Well, it's a laugh, but it shows how wordplay can catch you off guard. All in all, it's a top spot for a relaxed catch-up with mates, as long as you go in with the right idea of what it's about – honest, unpretentious, and full of character.

-
It's wonderfully dog-friendly, offering snacks and water for your furry friends, making it a welcoming spot for pet owners

Cons
-
They don't serve hot food, just bar snacks, so if you're after a full meal, you might need to pop elsewhere beforehand
-
One cheeky review pointed out some light-hearted false advertising about the 'half moon' – it's all in good fun, but it might set up expectations that aren't quite met
-
The operating hours can seem a bit muddled from what's listed, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any surprises on a quiet evening

Lovely management and team. My sons baby shower celebration was excellent. Great central location. Extremely flexible and lovely venue.

And his team is great.
Feel very homely and a good thing you always have new IPAs all of time
I really do love it at the Half Moon
Good drinking pub with a large selection of real ales on rotation. Great to have a pu that still focuses on ale!
Food was pretty good and staff were nice enough but where I draw issue is the false advertising. I came here expecting a lovely half moon as it says in the name, but was absolutely flabbergasted when I say a FULL MOON!!! I think it’s fair to say I was not impressed, do better half moon pub
Really nice proper pub with an excellent selection of beers 👌🏻
