About This Pub

Ah, The Greyhound – it's one of those hidden gems in Altrincham that just feels like a proper country escape, with its cosy nooks and welcoming fireplaces that make you want to settle in for the evening. From what I've gathered from folks who've been there, the food really steals the show; we're talking fresh, seasonal dishes like pan-fried seabass or a massive homemade pie, all served up with generous portions that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank. It's brilliant for a Sunday roast or just popping in for a quality pint of ale, and I love that they've made it so welcoming for dogs – it's that extra touch that makes it feel community-oriented. On the flip side, it does get packed at times, especially mid-week or on weekends, so you might end up waiting a bit for a table, and there've been a couple of mentions about unleashed dogs wandering about, which could put a damper on things if you're not keen. All in all, though, it's a solid spot for a laid-back meal or drinks with friends; I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, just maybe book ahead to avoid any hassle and keep an eye on those furry visitors!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely lovely – it's a cosy country pub that's warm and welcoming, perfect for catching up with mates over a pint.
  • The food is spot on; think hearty home-cooked dishes with big portions, like their legendary fish and chips or that unbeatable Sunday roast with unlimited gravy.
  • It's super dog-friendly, with a dedicated bar for your furry friends to freshen up, making it a great choice if you're out with your pooch.
  • Service is generally friendly and efficient, especially for drinks and meals, and they've got some cracking deals like three courses for £20.
  • Quality cask ales and a good selection of beers add to the authentic pub experience, with options for everyone including veggie choices.
Cons
  • It can get really busy, particularly on early Friday evenings, which might make it tricky to find a spot or get served quickly.
  • There have been a few gripes about dogs off the lead causing a bit of bother while you're trying to enjoy your meal.
  • Service isn't always perfect – it might feel a tad slow in certain areas, like the garden, though it's not a deal-breaker overall.

Great local pub for drinks and catch up with friends. Friendly people and good bar staff. Often it’s really busy early Friday evenings with a good atmosphere. Not eaten there recently only been for drinks.

We were passing and decided to call in for a snack. We only ordered starters and they were very good. The ham hock terrine was delicious.

Food was delicious, great value for money with the 3 courses for £20. The service was bang on, wasn't waiting long for plates to be collected, being seated in the garden normally you can be forgotten about. Only downfall was the dogs, one or two off the lead. Intruding while you eat, or a dog taking a dump, I'm not sure if there's a policy that require dogs to be kept on leads. Would definitely return though and would recommend.

Lovely little pub, nice decor, atmosphere and staff. Really big portions of food, and the fish was huge! Lovely dessert, very clean, warm and welcoming. Will be returning!

We had a very nice family meal here - the food was of a decent quality and there were some good veggie options available. It was very cosy to visit on a cold day and whilst it was reasonably busy they were able to fit us in even with a late reservation on a Saturday. Service was fine, though could have been a bit more attentive - both the food and bill took quite a long time to arrive. Overall we had a good experience and will return.
