About This Pub
You know, when I think about Riva, it just brings a smile – it's one of those places that really nails the whole pub and restaurant experience without trying too hard. The food is a standout; imagine tucking into a perfectly cooked steak or a fresh Sunday roast that leaves you satisfied, and they've got options for everyone, even the fussiest eaters. The team there are an absolute delight, always chatting away and making sure everything's just right, which adds to that cosy, rustic charm with its live music and laid-back feel. It's ideal for catching up over drinks or celebrating something special, like they did for that 50th birthday in the reviews. On the downside, it does fill up quickly, so you might end up waiting if you haven't booked, and the prices might make you think twice for a mid-week visit. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after a proper good time in Hale, with the highs outweighing any minor niggles – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area.

Stuck for a place to go and don’t want to wander far from home?
You can’t go wrong with Riva.
Unpretentious food, straight forward and pleasing. Mis en place is appropriate. Sometimes you just want to tuck into a meal with friends and enjoy conversation rather than marvel at the architectural wonder of the ingredients that are on your plate.
A step up from casual dinning and below star dinning place. Rosette? Almost.
My duck was lovely, sauce rich but not sickly sweet or cloying.
I heard warm praise for chicken and the steak.
The panna cotta dessert was a delight. By now you know of my aversion to reams of chocolate and sticky toffee puddings.
Overall. Satisfying meal with prices appropriate for this corner of Manchester.
A leisurely Sunday lunch that really could not be improved upon.
Duck parfait to start, which was complimented by a perfectly judged rhubarb puree: just tart enough against the duck.
Roast lamb to follow and what a plate! Yorkshire pud the size of a baby's head, decent amount of veg, super-crispy spuds and a generous serving of lamb that was cooked to pink-perfection.
Well considered cheeseboard to round things off: three good, distinctly different cheeses with water biscuits and all the trimmings.
With a stiff G&T and a large rioja, it's a wonder I didn't embarrass myself by dozing-off in the sunshine.
Lovely staff all around, who made me feel welcome from the moment I walked through the door.
Superb experience for a 50th birthday. We booked the private dining room and it was perfect. Max, Lily and the team were brilliant hosts and looked after us really well. The food was excellent and great value. Really recommended.
Fussy vegan. Always a little dubious when eating somewhere new and with limited menu choice. Riva did not disappoint. The waiting staff were wonderful. Clearly happy in their work. The Chef was attentive, even in taking the time out to visit our table and to go through menu choice with me. I ordered the No Beef fillet of Beetroot (I think!). It was absolutely delicious. Beautifully presented. Wilted spinach, a potato rosti base, finished with crispy mushrooms and fountin of micro leaves. I just love eating in full colour so this was right up my street. I probably didn't give the Chef enough credit but it was the tastest dish I've had in a while. I shall be sure to indulge in a vegan desert next time!
Great quality food for a more upscale version of a British lunch. The scallops were outstanding so was the T bone steak in particular as cooked to perfection, but was all great. Lovely restaurant in Hale village and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.
