About This Pub
Ah, The Grapes – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Gee Cross, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews and their website, it's got this warm, inviting setup with a modern twist on the classic pub feel, serving up some seriously good British and European grub that folks rave about. I love how it's so family-oriented, with a kids' menu and plenty of space to unwind, plus it's dog-friendly, which is brilliant if you're out for a walk and fancy a pit stop. The beer garden and outdoor areas are perfect for catching some sun with friends, and they've got a function room that's handy for birthdays or even something more sombre like a funeral do. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing – a few people mentioned waiting around for tables or having issues with staff not handling allergies properly, which could be a bit frustrating if you're relying on that. Overall, with a solid 4.4 rating, it's clear most folks have a great time, but it's worth going in with realistic expectations for the service. If you're in the area, I'd say give it a go for the food alone; it's a place that does community right, even if it has its off moments.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food here is an absolute winner – from juicy steaks and tasty fish and chips to special dishes like king prawns on sourdough, it's all cooked to perfection and leaves you wanting more.
-
It's a real family and dog-friendly spot with a welcoming atmosphere, plenty of room inside and out, including a lovely beer garden and outdoor seating for relaxing with mates or the little ones.
-
They've got a great selection of drinks, a function room for events, and handy extras like free parking and nearby EV charging, making it easy to pop in for a casual get-together.
Cons
-
Service can sometimes fall short, like when tables aren't ready on time or they struggle with things like providing an allergens menu, which might put off those with dietary needs.
-
It can be a bit quiet on certain nights, such as Mondays, so if you're after a buzzing crowd, you might find it a tad subdued at times.

Modernised old pub, quite nicely done nothing extreme. Good selection of drinks, plenty of room and seating, not had the food but it looks ok. Outside seating and tables and a large carpark at the rear.
Staff are very friendly and food is cooked to perfection. Highly recommend and will definitely be making a return when I’m in Manchester
When we arrived, our table wasn’t ready and we had to wait in the bar. After finally sitting down, we asked to see an allergens menu which they couldn’t provide. The member of our party who had an allergy then told the waitress his allergies and she went away to speak to the chefs and came back saying that they couldn’t cater for him at all. We then asked if he could go off the bar menu as was unable to eat off the Mother’s Day menu. They said no because only people in the bar (2m away) were able to go off this menu. The staff then tried to blame ourselves for this saying that we should’ve said at the time of booking. We go out to eat at least once a week and we have never had this issue and if they have issues with catering for allergies surely they should’ve asked me if anyone had any allergies on the phone when I called to make a reservation. Since it was Mother’s Day and everywhere would be fully booked we had no choice but to stay and the member with allergies had to sit and watch us eat! Apparently even chips had allergens in?
Whilst we were there a number of glasses piled up on the table and when we asked them to remove the glasses they didn’t. The lady on the table next to us also got ketchup thrown all over her by a clumsy waitress who promised it wasn’t on the lady’s jacket (which it was). The service was incredibly slow also. We sat down at about 2:15 and didn’t leave til around 5pm. At about half 3 there was another family who came in to get there table and they didn’t get seated until well after 4pm.
When we asked for our bill, they had charged us or 6 adults instead of 5 and a child! I wonder how many people they’ve tried this with and got away with!
Such a shame bc I was looking forward to trying a few things on their menu at a later date but 100% will not be returning. Absolutely dreadful. Couldn’t have asked for a worse Mother’s Day.
Quiet for a Monday night. But food amazing especially the fillet and ribeye steaks.
Chicken dish tender and very tasty.
Fish and chips very good.
Service good have been a bit more attentive. But pleasant and friendly staff.
Would return.
Was recommended to this little gem by my son the food was absolutely amazing I had the king prawns on sourdough the sauce was just amazing it was followed by spicy lamb koftas on a flatbread and again it was beautiful it was totally filling meal. I would recommend this venue to everyone. The chef must be a magician as we didn’t wait very long for our starters and main meal. The young lady who was serving us and bringing our food was very busy but was polite knowledgeable about some of our parties allergies and always had a smile on her face nothing was a trouble. The staff at the bar were very polite and smiling all the time. We had a wonderful evening and made our stay there absolutely great. The staff at the venue are a credit to the owner and management.
