About This Pub

Ah, The General Roy in Feltham – it's one of those pubs that really warms your cockles with its friendly vibe and solid grub. I love how the team there goes out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, and the food is a proper treat, with fresh ingredients making dishes like the sizzling skillets and burgers stand out, plus they've got options for veggies and vegans that actually taste great. The daily offers keep things affordable, and it's nice to see them pitching in for local charities and lending out spaces for community events – that community spirit is what makes it more than just a standard boozer. On the downside, though, it's a shame when they run out of popular items on the menu, leaving you to make do without, and some portions feel a bit stingy, like when you're left wanting more chips. It can get a bit noisy with the buzz of conversations, and honestly, it could do with a freshen-up in spots to keep the place looking its best. Overall, it's a cracking spot for catching up with mates over a pint and a meal, but just be prepared for those little quirks that come with it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly, always making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • The food is spot on with fresh ingredients and plenty of choices, including tasty vegan and vegetarian options that don't skimp on flavour.
  • Great value for money with daily deals and classics like those sizzling skillets and flame-grilled burgers that hit the spot.
  • It's a real community hub, supporting local causes and offering a free function area, which adds a nice touch to the traditional pub vibe.
Cons
  • They sometimes run out of menu items, like tomatoes or other basics, which can leave you a bit disappointed mid-meal.
  • Portions can be a tad small, such as with chips on a plate, so you might find yourself asking for more or leaving a bit peckish.
  • The atmosphere can get quite loud with groups chatting away, and it might benefit from a bit more regular cleaning to keep things fresh.

Amazing place. Best pub in area. The staff don’t get enough praise for their hospitality. Food amazing also

The food was ok. Shame they didn't have all the items which was listed on the food which was ordered. They had run out of tomatoes They should have compensated with something else, or discount. We asked them. No one had said anything. 1 meal had very few chips on plate, had to ask server for more. There is lots of free parking here. The Tandoori chicken sizzler didn't have a lot of sauce, so would recommend them to give extra, as rice is a dry dish.

First time visit to The General Roy this evening despite passing it all the time. Used both service at the bar and using the Sizzling app downloaded, and both worked just fine. Only one order seemed to go astray and had to goto bar but it was very quickly sorted with no problem at all. Food came quickly, despite being quite busy. The chicken burger was served hot, fresh and full of flavour. As a visitor to other Sizzling pubs, I noted the plate was smaller than usually get - I wish all others would take note of how this one is served. A giant plate for a burger and chips looks out of place, but this was absolutely perfect. 10/10! Staff are friendly nice, no complaints at all. Added bonus, got a free Peroni in the Sizzling app game. Win win! Got a bit of work done on the laptop, had a few drinks, watched the game and chilled out.... Perfect evening. Thank you for the great time, look forward to coming back soon!

Popped in recently for some food & drinks as I had a Sizzling Pub voucher to use up. I’ve not been here in years, must be 7/8 and it’s pretty much the same just with the added benefit of the outside all-weather area which they’ve made a good job of! To be fair for what it is, it’s pretty good. A locals pub with a Skillet menu that pretty much everyone likes. They were sold out of some ingredients so we just had the same - x2 Sirloin steaks with Diane sauce plus dirty chips. Not bad for the money at all. Big screens for the football/sports/racing,

Having read (mostly) good things about this place and wanting to try somewhere new, we were really looking forward to eating here. When we walked in, I immediately felt it was a lot louder than expected and could do with a clean. There were a couple of groups of people in the pub being seriously loud as well - far louder than the music or general atmosphere!! For a Thursday evening, that was pretty unexpected. The drinks were decent enough and the staff were perfectly friendly. They could definitely do with some more beers on tap - especially in this era of being spoilt for choice by craft beer! When ordering at the bar though and also at our tables, there were a lot of fruit flies around which is never pleasant. When we went to order our food, we were irritated to find that there was no fish (so no fish and chips which half of us were ordering) and they couldn’t use the hob (so couldn’t cook eggs for the full English breakfast). Having read a lot of reviews saying that people had had problems with certain food items not being available, I was really hoping they would have sorted this out. Sadly not, so we were really disappointed. I think my father in-law was given some extra bacon as an apology, but sadly that doesn’t much make up for not being able to eat what we were after. Probably the most disappointing thing was when the food arrived. After reading one review about “great portions”, we were left wondering if we’d come to the wrong place. The portions were really small compared to other places like this. Granted they are cheap - and they really are cheap - but we would have much preferred to pay a couple of pounds more for a decent serving. I was pleased I’d ordered a side of cheesy chips, but even these were pretty lacking on the size!! The quality of the food really was good, so we had no complaints there, but we were just left feeling pretty hungry. As a result, we ordered a couple of big desserts. These were a pleasant surprise, as they were a really good size and again, they were really tasty. Of course, the pub can’t do a great deal about the clientele so can’t be blamed for that, but that would unfortunately put me off going back any time soon. It’ll sound really snobby reading this, but we are not snobs in the slightest!! We just don’t tend to enjoy places where people make a point to shout as loud as they can at people standing right next to them, looking to fight with every other person who walks past. Again, not the pub’s fault, but a shame. If they ordered more of a stock of the food that seems to be often unavailable and perhaps increased the portion sizes on certain dishes (even if that means increasing the prices slightly), we’d give it another chance some time. Sadly though, for our joint birthday celebrations, this probably was not the best place to choose!! Let’s hope for an improvement in future, and thanks to the staff for being more friendly than the other guests were!
