About This Pub
Ah, The Flapper – it's one of those places that just sticks with you, isn't it? Tucked away in the heart of Birmingham's city centre along the canal, it's got this iconic, independent feel that's been supporting the local music scene since the early '90s. I mean, picture yourself there on a warm evening, sipping on a real ale in that sun-trap beer garden with views over the water – it's pure bliss, and the reasonably priced drinks and tasty food make it even better. The live gigs are what really shine; whether it's a grassroots band or a bigger name, the atmosphere is always buzzing and intimate, like you're part of the action. The staff are lovely too, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly. But, on the flip side, it can get a bit cosy during peak times, so if you're not keen on crowds, you might find it a touch overwhelming. Plus, with the opening hours being a bit hit-and-miss, it's worth planning ahead to avoid any disappointments. All in all, though, it's a fantastic spot for anyone looking for a genuine, down-to-earth night out – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The live music scene is absolutely brilliant, with grassroots bands and even international acts making it a go-to spot for a cracking night out.
-
Prices are spot on – reasonably priced drinks and food that won't break the bank, making it ideal for a casual get-together.
-
The canalside location is a real winner, with a large beer garden that's perfect for sunny days and offers stunning views over the water.
-
Staff are super friendly and welcoming, adding to that homely, feel-good vibe that makes you want to linger.
-
The atmosphere is electric, especially for gigs in the intimate space, where you feel right in the thick of it all.
Cons
-
The venue can feel a bit cramped during busier events, which might not suit everyone if you're after more space to move around.
-
Operating hours seem a tad inconsistent or limited, with it only open five days a week, so it's wise to double-check before heading out.
-
As it's a smaller spot, you might struggle to snag a table or a quiet corner on popular nights, which could put a damper on things.

Great evening here watching a tribute act. Really small venue for gigs, but awesome atmosphere, everybody was there for a good time. Loads of outdoor seating as well. Highly recommend this place for a night out.
Had an amazing time. Came and had some drinks and games of pool before seeing Tyler Hilton there a few days ago. Love the vibe of the whole place and the staff were super friendly! Wish I got the name of the main man who served us a few times but he was lovely from around 6pm on 14th may.
Great food/ portion sizes. Lovely location with seats overlooking the canal. Perfect summer spot, can’t wait to come again :)
Had a great night out. Good sound and mixing, lighting, great band (Du Blonde). Low cellar ceiling low stage makes it feel homely and you're with them. Good selection of drinks on tap, nice staff. Didn't have any food.
This place has a cool, old-school vibe with rustic decor, and it feels vintage. They play good music, have a great selection of beers, and even a pool table.
The outdoor seating is a highlight, offering a beautiful view of the canal-perfect for a relaxed drink. The staff is friendly and helpful. Overall, it's a nice spot to hang out with friends. Definitely worth a visit!
