About This Pub

Ah, The Eagle Pub – it's one of those local gems in Braintree that's had a bit of a makeover lately, and from what I've gathered chatting about it, the changes have brought some real positives while stirring up a few gripes. On the upside, the refurb has made the place look sharp and inviting, with the décor getting a thumbs-up and the toilets being a massive improvement – no more dodgy facilities holding things back. The staff sound like they're on the ball, creating a warm atmosphere, and it's brilliant that they've reinstated those quiz nights for a bit of entertainment. But, let's be honest, it's not all rosy; some folks miss the old buzz because it feels quieter now, like it's lost its crowd of regulars, and the pool area's a tad confined, which could cramp your style if you're there for a game. Then there's the odd service slip-up, like music drowning out the sports or staff having a off moment, which might leave you wanting a smoother experience. Overall, it's an affordable, open-all-week kind of place that's worth a visit if you're in the area, but keep in mind it might not have that full-on pub charm just yet – still, with a 4.1 rating, there's plenty to enjoy if you go in with the right expectations.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The refurbishment has really freshened things up, with a much-improved décor that makes the place feel welcoming and modern.
  • The staff come across as friendly and attentive, adding to that homely vibe once you're inside.
  • It's great that they've brought back the quiz nights – always a fun way to spend an evening with mates.
Cons
  • It seems a bit quieter these days after the changes, as if it's lost some of the regulars who made it lively before.
  • The pool and darts area is on the small side, which can make it tricky to get a proper game in without feeling cramped.
  • There are a few layout niggles, like the men's toilet being tucked away in an awkward spot, which might put some off.

Visited for the first time with a friend, not sure if they served food as we were only there to have a few drinks and play some pool, the pool/darts area was pretty small, to the point of not really being able to take a shot on the table because the wall was in the way but aside from that the atmosphere was pretty chill (it was a Monday night lol) drinks not a bad price either and I took advantage of the 2 for £6 on bottled beer

After being renovated it seems to have lost all the regulars that made this place buzzing. Been done up lovely but quiet.

Since it's been refurbished it's so much better only issue is the mens toilet entrance is a bit of a pain being in the pool room Can't work out why they didn't leave it where it was Other than that place is great with great staff and atmosphere 👍

Post-refurbishment review. Since the refurb there are some good things, and some not so good things. The good things are the décor is improved, the toilets are very, very, much improved. The quiz is back, which is a positive. However, it has to be said, for this reviewer, The feel of the venue is spoiled – previously it was a pub with a ‘homely’ feel. the multiple TV screens with football on all the time are a turn-off, whatever direction you look – there’s either a screen, or a screen reflected in a window. And, the biggest issue is loss of the seating with the changed layout – there are now not enough seats in the bar area. Seating has been removed in favour of relocating the dartboard – however the area it’s been moved to doesn’t support a correct length oche so it’s now wasted empty space.

Worst pub, drinks were disgusting, bar maids were arguing behind the bar whilst serving, someone accidentally broke their glass and the barmaid had a go at him. We went into watch the sport as advertised and music was playing the whole time and could barely hear the sports even when we asked if the sound could be turned up. Barmaids were very unaccomadating. We ordered 3 shots that were disgusting that solidified that turned into a paste that was jelly like, felt like we were being poisoned, there was no customer service or compassion and the priority was them sitting on their phones. Not surprised this pub was quiet for a Friday night. Never going back again.not a nice pub atmosphere was appealing it’s not somewhere to go unless they change the entirety of the place !! Do not get drinks from this place unless you dont mind feeling poisoned, buy drinks at your own risk!!!
