About This Pub
Ah, The Duke of Cleveland – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a proper meal and a good natter. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the food is an absolute winner; think hearty Sunday lunches with gorgeous gravy and massive portions that could feed a small army, or a duke burger that's simply amazing. The team behind the bar and in the kitchen are dead helpful and always up for a chat, which really makes the place feel inviting, even if you pop in unannounced. They've got live music on offer too, adding a bit of extra cheer to the evenings. On the flip side, it can be a tad quiet at times, especially in the dining area, so if you're after a buzzing crowd, it might not always deliver. And let's be honest, with food cooked fresh, there might be a short wait, but who'd complain about that for quality? Plus, it's only open five days a week, so checking the times is a must. All in all, it's a solid spot for enjoying good grub without breaking the bank, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area for a relaxed pint and a bite.

Cons
-
It can sometimes feel a bit quiet, which might not suit those after a more lively buzz.
-
You might have to wait a little for your food since it's all freshly cooked, though it's worth it in the end.
-
Only open five days a week with varying hours, so you'll need to plan ahead to avoid disappointment.

A very good Sunday lunch, the trio of meats (£19) with a side of pigs in blanket.(£4) Very good portions, gorgeous gravy too. The young ladies work very hard to deliver drinks and food. We will be back.
My son fancied fish and chips so took him along for a treat. He ate the whole lot (massive portion and beautifuly cooked). I had the duke burger which was AMAZING. Great service too! Will definitely be going back.
This is simply a brilliant pub for great food on the Headland. The staff always go out of their way to make you feel welcome and I'd recommend anyone visiting the Headland to try the food here. I visit regularly and the food is superb. They have a good menu and drink selection. Parmos, pies sundays lunches are excellent and the chips here are second to none.
Four of us dropped in unplanned and unbooked on Friday evening and what a great chance encounter. The owner met us at the bar and when we said we didn't have a reservation he said he had on spare table and was really friendly and welcoming.
It was a bit odd at first as there was a local band on (Electric Sheep and they were excellent) but the place is very much set up for dining. Once I got over this and we ordered food we all had an absolutely brilliant evening. The food was good and reasonably priced. Lovely old pub with a lot of character (and characters) and the evenings entertainment was fabulous.
First time visiting but will definitely look out for more band nights as this was the best night out in quite a while. Big thanks to the manager and all the staff for making room for us and making us feel welcomed.
Very quiet dining room, lovely wood burning stove. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Good was utterly amazing - freshly cooked, so don't expect it on the table in 5 minutes. Staff apologised for the wait, but honestly I'd much rather wait 20 mins and get freshly cooked hot food! Pork belly was delicious, Parmo very good, and homemade chips were just stunning. Will definitely be back.
