About This Pub

Ah, The Door Hinge Ale House – it's one of those hidden gems in Welling that really captures the heart of what a proper micropub should be. I've got to say, the real ales are an absolute highlight; they're served fresh from the cask with that genuine, no-fuss charm, and the prices are spot on for a casual evening. The atmosphere is just lovely – think rustic interiors, a few books to flick through, and some classic pub games that make it feel like a step back in time. Plus, with events like the weekly meat raffle and quizzes, it's got that community spirit that draws you in for more than just a drink. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few tales of staff not always being the friendliest, which could leave you feeling a bit flat if you're after a warm welcome. And let's be honest, with no food available and a somewhat limited drinks menu, it might not suit everyone, especially if you're hoping for a full meal or a wider selection. Still, for a quiet pint and a chat with mates, it's worth a visit – just plan around those opening hours, as it's closed on Mondays and winds down early some days. Overall, it's a solid spot with more ups than downs, and I'd recommend giving it a go if you're in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The real ales are top-notch, with a fantastic ever-changing selection served straight from the cask – it's like a treasure trove for ale enthusiasts.
  • It's got that cosy, traditional micropub feel, perfect for a quiet pint in a rustic setting, and they've even got books to borrow if you fancy a read.
  • The owner and staff can be really pleasant, making you feel right at home, especially if you're after a welcoming chat.
  • They've got fun extras like pub games, a weekly meat raffle, and a fortnightly quiz, which add a nice community vibe.
  • Prices are spot on for a good night out – it's inexpensive, so you won't break the bank on a few drinks.
Cons
  • Some folks have found the staff a bit unfriendly at times, which can put a damper on the experience if you're not in the right crowd.
  • There's no food on offer, so if you're looking for a bite with your beer, you'll have to head elsewhere or bring your own snacks.
  • The drinks selection is a tad limited beyond the ales and ciders – not much in the way of spirits or other options.
  • Opening hours can be a bit restrictive, with closures on Mondays and early evenings on some days, so it's not ideal for spontaneous visits.
  • It might feel a bit quiet or intimate for those who prefer a livelier atmosphere, depending on when you pop in.

The first micropub in South East London, formerly a electrical wholesalers and a garden centre. Rustic interior, intimate traditional old style pub. Three cask beers on offer served in lined glasses, ensuring a full pint. A good selection of still ciders are available and a small selection of wine and spirits.

I love it when there's a cozy, homely atmosphere in a pub or ale house, and when they pour a little more than a pint into a pint glass, it definitely makes me want to leave a tip for the bartender and come back for another pint of beer in the coming days. The bonus that everyone is asked to put their phone on silent mode so as not to disturb visitors watching the movie titled "Life" peacefully.
