About This Pub

Ah, The Crown Joules – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Codsall. I have to say, the beer garden stands out as a real highlight; it's spacious and just the ticket for a sunny afternoon, making it easy to while away the hours with friends. The selection of Joules beers and cocktails is spot on, and with live music thrown in, it creates such a lively, welcoming atmosphere that you'd be hard-pressed not to enjoy yourself. The food menu is another plus – things like the burgers and pizzas come across as fresh and flavoursome, and from what I've heard, they're perfect for a casual bite. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect roses. There have been a few grumbles about service; sometimes the bar can get a bit chaotic, and you might find yourself waiting longer than you'd like. Plus, some dishes can be a bit light on the portions or toppings, and those extra charges for sides might catch you off guard, especially when you're already splashing out on a meal. Overall, it's a solid choice for a night out, especially if you're after good company and a relaxed setting, but keeping an eye on the little niggles will help you make the most of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer garden is an absolute delight, perfect for soaking up the sun on a warm summer day.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of Joules beers on tap, along with tasty cocktails and live music that really adds to the vibe.
  • The food hits the spot with fresh options like burgers and pizzas – I heard the Buffalo and Blue burger is a winner.
  • Service is generally spot on, with friendly staff who get things out quickly, making it a great spot for a relaxed meal.
  • It's a beautifully renovated pub with a welcoming atmosphere, ideal for catching up with mates over a drink.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit inconsistent at times, like when the bar staff might serve someone else first even if you've been waiting.
  • Some dishes feel a tad stingy, with toppings or portions that don't quite live up to the price, such as the steak sandwich.
  • You might end up paying extra for sides with your meal, which can add up unexpectedly.
  • The food quality varies – it's good but not always outstanding, like that buttermilk chicken burger that was smaller than expected.
  • Booking and cancellation policies are a bit strict, with fees if you don't cancel in time, which could put a dampener on plans.

Its a lovely little pub, decent size beer garden great for in the summer. Only issue i had was I was at the bar first and these ladies turned up at the bar after me, the bar man served them first as they were closer to him even though i’d been waiting a while . Doesn’t help that there was no one actually at the bar at the time so they wouldn’t have realised i was first

After a long dog walk this was just what was needed! Had the Buffalo and Blue burger, absolutely amazing, dripping with Blue Cheese complemented with the Buffalo Chicken. Service was super fast too for a party of 4, also tried half pint dark Joules, nice a smooth. Beautiful pub, staff were awesome.

Visited on 18/01/2025 for a family gathering. My son and husband had pizza’s which were fresh and lovely. Bit ‘stingy’ on the toppings but they were nice. I had the steak sandwich which was very poor. It was £12 for the sandwich (just for the sandwich!) and I needed to pay and additional £4 for Aioli and chips. I asked for no Rocket and I literally received 5 pieces of steak slapped between two bits of bread. The sandwich was dry and the chips were okay but the dip was like water. £16 for my meal and I probably would have enjoyed a baguette from Greggs more. Also … the pricing is just too high for the quality you receive. I had a cappuccino and a coke and it cost over £8. There was no serving staff. We were just being served by the guy who was also covering the bar. You would think there would be more staff on Saturdays. Would have much preferred to have stayed at The Station down the road however they unfortunately had the main room booked out from 2pm. Much nicer pubs around for better quality and lower the cost.

First time in this pub, and i must say I was pleasantly surprised. The food was tasty and fresh and a really lovely snack. Be aware that if you have the burger, it doesn't come with a side of fries, so you have to buy those as an extra. Service was okay. My wife and friend stood at the bar waiting to be served and got looked over 3 times by the same bar person. Eventually, one bar member stated that they had been waiting the longest. Would I have a night out in here? Yeah, I would 🫶🏼

Really nice pub and setting, very nicely done out. Great selection of Joules draught, and decent menu. Personally, the food was good but not great. I had the buttermilk chicken burger which I was expecting to be chicken breast but was some gnarled up bit of chicken that was far smaller than the bun. Fries were disappointingly average too. Decent sized car park to the rear and a nice large beer court.
