About This Pub

Ah, The Cove – it's this tucked-away gem in the heart of Tynemouth, where you can settle in for some seriously tasty grub and a good old chinwag over drinks. From what I've gathered from the buzz around, the tapas-style small plates are a real winner, paired beautifully with their handpicked wine flights, and the breakfasts and Sunday lunches have that homely feel that's become a local favourite. The live music and cosy atmosphere make it ideal for everything from a quick bite to a proper night out, and the staff are dead helpful, always on hand to sort you out. On the downside, though, there have been a few slip-ups like menu mistakes or the odd dish that doesn't quite deliver, and the facilities can sometimes let the side down – nothing major, but it's those little things that might catch you off guard. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after a welcoming spot by the coast, but it's worth going in with a balanced view, as it's not perfect every time. I'd say give it a try for the highlights, and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious, especially the tapas and breakfasts – folks rave about the fresh, hot dishes and perfect portions that leave you satisfied without overdoing it.
  • Service is spot on, with friendly staff who go the extra mile to make you feel welcome, like having a chat with attentive servers who know their stuff.
  • Prices are reasonable for what you get, making it a great value for quality meals and drinks, including those tempting wine flights.
  • The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with live music adding a lovely backdrop, plus options for outdoor, ground floor, or upper seating to suit any mood.
  • It's a versatile spot for different occasions, from casual catch-ups over small plates to indulgent evenings with themed tasting nights – always something to savour.
Cons
  • There can be occasional menu errors or missing items, like advertised dishes not being available, which might leave you a bit disappointed.
  • Some food elements don't always hit the mark, such as certain items feeling subpar in quality, which can detract from the overall experience.
  • Facilities like the toilets might not be up to scratch at times, with issues such as running out of essentials, which is a bit of a nuisance.
  • It can feel just average for the prices in that area, especially if you're expecting top-tier consistency across the board.

Absolutely stunning food. We had the 4 tapas dishes + 2 drinks deal, and were stuffed at the end of our meal. Food was hot, fresh and delicious. The wine was perfect. Very reasonable price also, for what you get. Service was fabulous! Our servers, Paul and Sam, were very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. They were very friendly and funny, which just elevated the experience. The atmosphere was lovely with some nice music and nice lighting. Made our dining experience very comfortable and pleasant. Would definitely recommend and will be returning!

Average, especially when you're paying front street prices. We had the tapa deal , errors in the menu ( no beef), no explanation on the deal from the waiter. Maybe they are still finding their feet.?

Should’ve taken a picture of the food first I guess, but the tapas was excellent! The bread selection is great; fresh and tasty with great oil and balsamic. Highly recommend the chicken satay 👌 staff were lovely, will be coming back.

Had an impromptu lunch visit today and was served straight away for a table of two (on Valentine’s Day). Most food was nice, not good ‘pigs in blankets’ the sausages weren’t good quality. The female toilets were not in good enough condition - no toilet roll (always so annoying), only one out of three soap dispensers were working and the bin was overflowing with paper towels and sad floral display.

Food was amazing 🤤. Portions are just right for one person so they do advise to order two small plates. The music was great. They have outdoor, ground floor and upper floor seating. Warm and cozy vibe.
