About This Pub

Ah, The Chequers Inn – it's one of those dependable Wetherspoon pubs that you can always rely on for a good old pint and a chat. What really stands out is the friendly staff; they're bang on with their recommendations and make the place feel warm and inviting, whether you're there for a quick drink or a full meal. The selection of ales is spot on too, with plenty of options for those who fancy a proper pale or porter, and the stylish interior with its chandeliers and bright, airy feel adds a nice touch of class. Outdoor seating is brilliant on a sunny day, and most folks rave about the meals and top-notch service. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – I've heard a few tales of food not quite hitting the mark, like that burnt bacon that's left some feeling a bit let down. Still, overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening out, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe skip the breakfast if you're picky about your fry-up.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in
  • A cracking selection of ales and drinks, perfect for real ale enthusiasts looking for something special
  • The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, with stylish interiors like chandeliers and plenty of natural light from the windows
  • Outdoor seating is a lovely touch for enjoying a pint in the sunshine, and the meals are generally spot on with excellent service
Cons
  • There have been a few grumbles about food quality, like the bacon turning up burnt and a bit plasticky, which can put a damper on things
  • The choice of guest cask ales might feel a tad limited at times, so it could disappoint if you're after more variety

I come here almost every Saturday and order a Small Breakfast. For the past few weeks, I've noticed that my bacon has been burnt and the texture and taste is like plastic. Everything else on my plate is fine but it's just the bacon... It makes me sad every time because I really like bacon but cooking it until it's burnt ruins it for me.

We have used this particular pub many times and have always found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable. The pub has a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. We have had a few meals which have always been very good and the service is excellent. Great pub to have a drink and a pub meal.

Popped in earlier. Service was awesome. Got told about the ales that were on. Very knowledgeable staff. Lovely pint. Would definitely recommend to real ale drinkers. A great selection of pale ales and porters.

This was a fantastic pub for drinking, with a highly stylish interior! This is contributed to from the chandeliers and red patterns on the wall, counter is nicely presented too. I had a refreshing pint of Kopparberg, enjoying the outdoor seating in the sunlight!

Great set up in here with the island bar and the abundance of windows makes for a bright and airy experience. All staff very friendly and helpful. Despite a limited choice of guest cask ales the Exmoor Gold was A# 👍🏻
