About This Pub

Ah, The Chequers in Barkingside – what a gem it is for a relaxed pint and a good natter with friends. I have to say, the staff really make the place; they're so approachable and create that cosy, community feel that's hard to beat. The drinks menu is spot on too, with a wide array of options that cater to everyone, from craft beers to something lighter if you're driving. And don't overlook the beer garden – it's brilliant for a sunny afternoon or even when the weather's playing up, especially if you've got a furry companion along. It's family-oriented as well, which is lovely for get-togethers without the formality. On the downside, though, the food's a bit of a mixed bag; a few times it's not available due to kitchen issues, which is a shame because when it is on, it sounds pretty tasty from what others have said. Still, with such a strong overall rating, I'd say it's well worth popping in for the atmosphere and drinks – just maybe plan ahead if you're hoping to grab a bite. All in all, it's a solid local spot that does the basics brilliantly, but with a few kinks to iron out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • They've got a brilliant selection of drinks, from real ales and ciders to wines, cocktails, and even low or no-alcohol options – perfect for all tastes.
  • The beer garden is a real gem; it's dog-friendly and a lovely spot to relax, whether it's sunny or not.
  • It's got a family-friendly vibe, ideal for catching up with mates or celebrating with loved ones, and the free WiFi adds a nice touch.
  • Plenty of entertainment on offer, like Sky Sports, ESPN, TNT, and Amazon Prime on the TVs, making it a great place for watching the game.
Cons
  • The food service can be unreliable, with the kitchen often closed or no chefs available, which might leave you disappointed if you're after a meal.
  • Some folks have mentioned issues with special menus, like the Christmas fayre, not being deliverable, so it's worth checking in advance.
  • It might not be the spot for a full dining experience, as a few reviews highlight that food options are hit or miss.

Came here for drinks with family and friends later jist before christmas- great drinks and atmosphere, food looked delicious but I never ate anything but my cousin said it was very good pub food. Second time around coming here, will definitely come back when back in town again! Great local spot!

Stupidly, they have food menus including what appears to be a decent Christmas fayre menu but no chefs to deliver on any of it. After my mum and her friends going today for lunch, with the added intent of booking Christmas Dinner in the coming weeks, to be told no food, no chef, this simply isn't acceptable. Update the website, be clear to the public of what you're capable of providing as a business and save people wasted journeys and disappointed visits.

I so love this pub! Owners and staff are brilliant! Friendly, welcoming, fantastic entertainment 4 nights of the week! Only downside is that kitchen is often closed (yes I’m the one who’s always asking for food 😂) but it doesn’t stop me visiting (too much sometimes) as I can take my own food now 😂😂 it’s so nice to have a pub to call my local! Your all doing a brilliant job keep up the great work!

Beautiful, clean and welcoming atmosphere. I had the "fish shop platter" it was a sizable portion, didn't think I would get through it. But it was so fresh, and cooked to perfection. I managed to finish it all. Staff are warm and friendly. Definitely deserve a 5 start rating.
