About This Pub

Ah, The Carters Arms – it's one of those unassuming spots on Stockport Road that really grows on you once you're inside. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got that classic pub feel where you can sink into a pint of well-kept real ale without breaking the bank. I love how affordable it is; hearing about pints for under three quid brings back memories of proper value for money. The staff sound like absolute gems, always efficient and welcoming, which makes for a relaxed evening, especially if you're catching some live music or joining in on a quiz night. They've got all the extras too, like a pool table and dart board, so it's not just about the drinks – it's about having a laugh with mates. On the flip side, it's a shame there aren't any fresh reviews lately; the last ones are from a couple of years back, so I'm not sure if it's still hitting the same high notes. Plus, without a website, it's hard to get the latest on opening times, which vary a bit and seem to kick off in the evenings. All in all, if you're in Manchester and fancy a no-fuss local with a decent atmosphere, it's worth a try – just go in with an open mind and enjoy the good bits while keeping an eye out for any quiet spells.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are always friendly and efficient, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • They've got a cracking selection of real ale that's well-kept and served at a brilliant price – like £2.90 a pint, which is a real bargain these days.
  • Live music and entertainment on weekends, plus quizzes and football screenings, create a lively atmosphere that's perfect for a good night out.
  • The pub's clean, well-maintained, and surprisingly spacious inside, with fun extras like a pool table and dart board to keep things entertaining.
  • It's got that welcoming local vibe where the drinks are reasonably priced and the crowd is generally up for a chat.
Cons
  • There haven't been any recent reviews in the last six months, so it might not be as buzzing as it used to be – could be worth popping in to see for yourself.
  • The operating hours seem a bit inconsistent from what's listed, and with no website to check updates, it's tricky to plan a visit.
  • Only 70 reviews in total suggests it's not the most talked-about spot, so you might not find the same level of variety or excitement as at bigger venues.
  • While the overall rating is a solid 3.9, it's based on older feedback, which makes me wonder if things have changed since the last rave reviews in 2022.

Party going on when I was there so went in the tap room, enjoyed some real ale can't remember what was on at the time but was on top form, pool table and dart board available and Duke box staff very efficient and friendly, bus 347 from Ashton to Haughton Green circular and return service stops nearby , good atmosphere throughout the Carters give it a try.

Superb. Went to see a live act (first one for ages!) Seen him loads of times before, but a great night in the Carter's- lovely to see an artist live (especially Sean!) But staff and clientele were great as well. We will be back 👍

Really nice pub looks deceiving from outside but a lot bigger inside. Does have live music at weekends, also has a quiz on as well. It also shows football which has a great atmosphere.

This is a very nice local pub which sells good and well maintained real ale. They often have entertainment on the weekend. I have found both the staff and the customers to be friendly. The drinks are well priced, the place is clean and well maintained.
