About This Pub
Ah, The Bull & Claw in Newtownards – it's one of those places that really stands out for getting the basics right while adding a bit of flair. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is a real highlight; folks rave about the tasty meals, generous portions, and that boozy brunch that's become a bit of a legend – all for a solid £40 a head, which includes cracking cocktails and service that keeps the good times flowing. The drinks selection is spot on too, with everything from classic pints to fancy gins that pair perfectly with the grub. And let's not forget the atmosphere; it's spacious, well-decorated, and strikes a nice balance between traditional pub vibes and something a bit more modern, making it ideal for a relaxed catch-up with mates. On the flip side, though, booking can be a right pain – some have had a devil of a time getting hold of them, and there are tales of turning up only to find things not quite as advertised. Prices are a bit on the premium side, which might make you think twice if you're watching the pennies, and there've been a few odd moments, like an unexpected furry visitor in the dining area, that could dampen the experience. Overall, it's a gem worth visiting if you're in the area, but go in with your eyes open to those little niggles – after all, it's the mix of the brilliant and the not-so-brilliant that makes these places feel real and relatable.

-

Cons
-
Booking can be a real hassle at times, with some folks struggling to get through on the phone or finding the place seemingly closed early.
-
Prices are on the higher end, which might feel a bit steep if you're after something more budget-friendly, even if the quality justifies it.
-
There have been a few unexpected issues, like spotting a dog in the dining area, which could put some off their meal.
-
Service might vary depending on the staff on duty, as it's a shame when great team members move on and things feel a tad inconsistent.

Stopped in this town on the way south and had a really nice meal washed down with two great beers, a Rochshure and a Hellion. Would definitely recommend!! If we're ever passing by, we will visit again for sure! 😊
Top class and great service again two lovely lady’s Bevyn and a lady with tattoos both I believe not there for long now as moving on to new things. Shame as they are very professional good luck to them in there new places… thank you both the experience was relaxing and friendly.
For my wedding anniversary (22/4) I tried to book the Bull and Claw, Newtownards for dinner but despite three long telephone calls could not get an answer.
I eventually decided to just call in as it was only 1945hrs and the establishment advertises that it is open until 2200hrs.
I was met on entry by a female staff member and explained I didn’t have a reservation as no one had seen fit to answer the phone. I wasn’t too worried a it had a number of diners eating food and drinking and it was only a quarter to eight.
I was flabbergasted that the staff member advised me that the kitchen was closed and we couldn’t have any food.
Obviously I remonstrated quoting the time and the fact no one answered their phone, but to no avail.
I was fairly cross with my treatment and would appreciate any comment the owners may proffer.
Fantastic day out for the boozy brunch, staff were great even though we had them bringing drinks every time they past our table, food was on point aswell, great choice decent portions ,so to sum up £40 per head for 2 hrs of cocktails and great food excellent service youd be a fool not to
Friendly staff, very accommodating, really nice food, compliments to the chef. Nicely decorated & spacious. The food is priced at the top end of the market, which could be defended, although, when paying these prices I would never expect to find a dog in a restaurant setting, never mind ripping it's toy apart all over the floor & senior staff just walking past like it's normal??
