About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about The Blue Boar – it's one of those pubs that just warms your cockles the second you step inside. I've always appreciated how they focus on what really matters: pouring out some seriously good beers, like their own craft ales that have a unique story in every sip. The atmosphere is spot on for a proper natter; it's all about connecting with people without any noisy distractions, which I find refreshing, though it might not be everyone's cup of tea if you're after something more upbeat. The food's a winner too – those cobs are legendary, packed with chunky cheese and onions, perfect for soaking up a pint. And if you've got a dog in tow, they'll be treated like royalty, which is just lovely. On the flip side, it's a cosy spot, so it does get busy, and you might have to get creative with seating or even chat up a stranger to join their table. All in all, it's a gem for anyone who enjoys a genuine, down-to-earth pub experience, but it might not suit if you're looking for a bigger, more energetic venue. I'd say it's well worth a visit for a relaxed evening with mates.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The beer selection is absolutely spot on – they've got a cracking range of craft cask ales, including their own brews that are full of character and flavour.
  • It's got that warm, welcoming vibe where you can have a proper chat with friendly locals and staff; no distractions from telly or music, just good old conversation.
  • Their pub snacks, especially those legendary cheese and onion cobs, are a real treat – hearty and satisfying, just like a traditional pub should be.
  • They're super dog-friendly here; your furry mate will be made to feel part of the gang with treats and plenty of fuss from the team.
  • It's a proper award-winning spot with a genuine, no-nonsense atmosphere that makes you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
Cons
  • The pub can get quite packed, especially on busier days, so you might struggle to bag a seat and end up standing or sharing a table.
  • With no background music or entertainment, it might feel a bit quiet if you're after a more lively night out – it's all about the chat, which isn't for everyone.

Do you like beer? If you haven't been here yet, correct that. Small pub with a dedicated clientele. Most days it's hard to find a seat, but people are friendly and often happy to let strangers join thier table. The cheese and onion cobs are the stuff of legend, and the bar staff are the kindest and most knowledgeable people you will ever see across a bar. Jo and Mitch are wonderful and are able to make recommendations to suit your preferences.

Best beer and cobs in Leicester. Friendly staff and locals. Always a fantastic range of new ales on the bar to try. A good "old fashioned" but modern bar where you can sit, watch the world go by, chat to friends and strangers alike.

Great ale pub, both real ale and keg craft. They do a range of ciders too (apparently). Legendary cobs to munch on. Often quite busy.

Fabulous real ale and chat pub without any annoying interrupting background music. Barrels rolled in and out while there and all visible behind the bar. Huge proper chunky cheese n thick onion ' Leicester Cobs' light brown crust on top, none of your softy small southern 'rolls', hah. Haven't seen any as good as these for decades! Big scrubbed table tops, ideal for 'dominoes' and beer glasses etc with elbow room to spare. Sat at 1 of 2 tall old barrel table tops with tall sit stools, could do with 2 or 3 more of those stools as 1 of our 7 had to stand!
