About This Pub

Ah, Thatched House Pub – what a gem it is for anyone craving a taste of African flavours in a proper pub setting. I have to say, the food really steals the show; think huge portions of tilapia that's cooked fresh and utterly delicious, or a hearty matoke with meat and spinach that leaves you satisfied. The atmosphere is spot on for a good laugh with mates – it's lively, with pool games and that exciting nightclub vibe in the evenings, making it ideal for a midweek unwind or weekend shenanigans. The staff can be dead friendly too, which makes you feel right at home during off-peak hours. But, let's keep it real, there are a few downsides that might catch you out. Some have had rough experiences with service, like orders going missing or complaints being brushed off, and there was even a mention of something unpleasant turning up in the food – that's not something you'd want to deal with on a night out. Plus, the prices are a tad on the high side, and it's not exactly set up for a peaceful family meal with all the noise and lack of kid-friendly spaces. All in all, if you're up for a bit of excitement and don't mind overlooking the occasional hiccup, it's worth a visit; just go in with your eyes open for a balanced pub adventure.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The African dishes are absolutely delicious – that tilapia is massive and packed with flavour, making it a real treat for food lovers.
  • The staff are generally friendly and welcoming, which adds a nice touch to your visit, especially during quieter times.
  • It's got a lively atmosphere that's perfect for a fun night out, with options like playing pool and even turning into a nightclub in the evenings.
  • They're open late, which is brilliant if you're looking for a spot to unwind after a long day or catch up with friends into the early hours.
Cons
  • There have been some complaints about poor customer service, like orders not arriving complete or issues not being handled properly.
  • A few folks have reported problems with the food, such as finding unexpected items in their meals, which can really put a damper on things.
  • The prices feel a bit steep for some dishes, especially when you might not get exactly what you asked for or have to stick to set options.
  • It's quite loud and not the most family-friendly setup, so if you're after a quiet meal or a relaxed vibe, it might not hit the mark.

Terrible customer service by the waiters. Ordered items didn’t appear when the food was served. Also found steel wire in my food, made a complaint but nothing was done! Atrocious!!

The tilapia was huge and absolutely delicious. We also had a matoke dish with meat and spinach. We had to wait a while but that's because it's cooked fresh. Really friendly staff. We went during the quiet period - midweek afternoon, but I can just imagine how lively this place gets at the weekend. Would like to visit again and try some other dishes.

Great Atmosphere at Thatched House Pub I was invited by a friend to meet up at Thatched House Pub for some food and a few games of pool. I initially expected British pub food, but to my surprise, the menu had a African food (maybe east). In the evening, the venue even transforms into a nightclub, making it a versatile spot for a night out. My friend ordered me a fish dish with a rich, savoury sauce on the side, and I have to say—the fish was fantastic! Ordering is straightforward; you go up to the bar, place your order from the menu, and let them know where you’re sitting. The staff then bring your food directly to your table. I could see why my friend visits often—not just because of the great food, but also for the welcoming atmosphere. The pub had a friendly vibe, and with pool tables available in both the main and back areas, there was plenty to do. We played in the back area, but since it was the middle of winter, it was freezing out there. Luckily, they have outdoor heaters—you just need to ask at the counter for them to be turned on. It’s a great place to unwind, enjoy good food, and have a casual evening before the nightlife kicks in. The menu offers a decent selection of East African dishes, all well-seasoned and flavourful. Portion sizes are fairly average, but the quality of the food makes up for it. Later in the evening, the venue transitions into a club. I didn’t stay too late, leaving around midnight, but I noticed staff preparing the space—removing the pool tables from the main hall to make way for a dancefloor. One minor downside is the parking situation. If you don’t arrive early, finding a space is a nightmare. Even getting there early doesn’t guarantee parking, so it’s best to plan ahead with alternative transport options. Overall, Thatched House Pub is a solid choice for a pub experience with a unique twist. Whether you’re stopping by for a drink, a meal, a few games of pool, or a night out, it offers a great mix of food, entertainment, and atmosphere.

The food was nice but the tilapia was 21 pounds....the service was really nice from the lady but you can't buy kuku choma without chips and salad even if you ask for something else which really didn't make sense. The food was good but it's quite dear if you really know the pricing of the dishes. The nyama choma was so hard and fatty too.

I would say it ok for any African Restaurant Place is big, or should i say huge More of pub setting. Though not family welcoming the chairs not built or set for children friendly environment. Has no quiet space full loud entertainment if you need quiet environment to enjoy your meal definitely not Thatched House. The staff need training in-terms of customers services. Rude and have attitudes. I have never 👎 reviewed staff’s behaviour but definitely unacceptable and unprofessional. A disappointment Toilets extremely filth . Smells like no regular cleaning done. Lack of seats as it is chaotic. Definitely not children friendly However the overall food experience was great.
