About This Pub
Ah, Stretford Canteen, what a little delight it is! I've got to say, from what folks are saying, this place really nails the basics with food that's honest and magnificent – think tender hake that melts in your mouth or those pickled eggs that might just win over even the sceptics. Pair that with a cracking atmosphere where the lighting and setup make you want to settle in for hours, and you've got yourself a winner for a Sunday treat or a casual bite. The service stands out too; it's that friendly, attentive kind that turns a simple meal into a memorable one, with staff who go the extra mile. But, let's be fair, it's not without its quirks – there might be a bit of uncertainty around when it's actually open, so you'd want to double-check before heading out. And if you're craving a proper pub crawl with live music and beers on tap, this bistro vibe might feel a tad more refined than rowdy. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for anyone after good grub and a warm welcome in Manchester – I'd pop in if you're in the area, you won't be disappointed!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely brilliant – from the juicy hake and tasty mushroom and potato pave to their three-course Sunday menu, it's all top-notch and full of genuine flavours.
-
Service is warm and spot-on; the staff are friendly and chatty, making you feel right at home, with mentions of excellent servers like Henry who really elevate the experience.
-
The atmosphere is just lovely, with a cosy setup, great lighting, and a welcoming vibe that makes you want to linger over a meal and a glass of wine.
-
It's a great spot for a relaxed Sunday afternoon or evening, offering delicious options like breakfast or dinner that leave you wanting to come back.
Cons
-
It seems like there might be some confusion with opening times, as the status suggests it's closed at points, which could mean it's not always available when you fancy a visit.
-
Being more of a bistro than a traditional pub, it might not have that lively, casual pub feel if you're after pints and a rowdy crowd rather than a sit-down meal.

A brilliant first experience of this bistro. Enjoyable on every level, delicious food throughout the three courses, excellent wines, excellent service and a great atmosphere on a late Sunday afternoon. Will be back.
Genuine, honest, magnificent food. The hake was juicy, soft and tender. The pickled eggs cured my fear of pickled eggs. The mushroom &potato pave is a must to try.
The warmth atmosphere makes you want to sit there for hours. Lovely lighting and set up. I recommend sitting at the bar if you want to see how wonderful the pace of how the chef works.
The thriving, giant, great looking monstera makes you feel a little jealous and sad for your own house plants.
